WORKING EXPERIENCE

Senior Program Manager, DREAMS Innovation Challenge program, Mercy Corps, Gulu (Nov 2016 – Nov 2022)

Duti

Led the coordination, financial and administrative compliance and monitored the consortium in Gulu, Lira and Oyam districts. Overseeing the DREAMS program activities and frequently visiting the field. Prepare monthly and quarterly narrative, status and financial reports, offer administrative support, supervise staff activities, communicate with Community Leaders and senior authority. Capacity development of staff, mentors and beneficiaries.

Achievements

-Led the conceptualization and implementation of the program during its inception stage, formed 92 groups for vulnerable young women and girls in the Acholi and Lango sub regions. Ensured all the groups were provided with VSLA kits and life skills and financial literacy trainings.

-Conducted regular community sensitizations and male engagement and also maintained relationship with the communities and local government in the districts. I regularly participated in meetings with the district and sub county representatives and shared information with the stakeholders with the local authorities.

-Produced reports on time on the program activities capturing impacts related to the activities.

-Ensured proper, administration, human resource within Mercy Corps policy and with the maximum benefit to the program.

Program Manager, Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents program, BRAC, Sierra Leone (July 2015 – October 2017)

Duties

Operated and implemented the Youth Empowerment program accordingly. Planning, coordinating, organizing, supervising, follow up of program activities at all levels, Supervise the KAP Survey activities for the program, Promoting adolescent leadership through mentorship. Prepare documentation through presentations, case studies and performing any other duty as requested by the Country Representative and Senior Management.

Achievements

-Initiated the program, opened ninety adolescent centers (safe spaces) in target communities, provided overall leadership and regularly monitored all program operations, empowering 200 young girls socially and financially using integrated approach through safe spaces, socialization activities, Life skills, Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness and Financially through Financial Literacy, Livelihoods development and support.

-Networked and ensured effective partnership with donor (UNICEF) and identified other relevant stakeholders including NGOs that worked in the same area of youth empowerment, Community elders, District office youths, Ministry of Youths, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social Welfare, Labor and Children’s Affairs, with a purpose of strengthening child protection systems, advocating for young people’s rights, creating awareness on Gender Based Violence as well as Promoting youth Participation in the operational areas.

-Mentored and developed the capacities of four Program Assistants, ninety Adolescent leaders and 200 direct program beneficiaries through trainings provided in different sectors. The staff submitted monthly action plans based on the overall program annual operational plan.

-Monitored and evaluated the performance of the program through field visits, field staff’s reports, and interactions with beneficiaries and the family members, community people and referred to the Monitoring and Evaluation framework to review some activities and methodologies in order to achieve the expected program outcomes and impact.

-All the program materials and items were purchased following the Procurement procedures of the Organization. I oversaw program expenses, authorized and approved program expenses.

Manager, Building Young Futures (BYF) in BRAC Uganda (August 2013 to July 2015)

Duties

Oversaw staff recruitment, planning and organizing relevant trainings for youth. Ensuring capacity development of staff and mentors, Gathering information through key informant interviews, Focus Group Discussions and document case stories for newsletters publication. Development of program manuals, modules and documents. Supervising staff and field trainers’ activities, supervise respective trainings, report writing and administrative work, logistic management and representing BRAC in national conferences.

Achievements

-Apart from being a Manager, I was appointed Diversity Ambassador, ensuring inclusion and diversity among staff with emphasis on trust, care and respect for one another starting with change in attitude and behavior.

-I managed coordination mechanisms with relevant authorities and stakeholders- UNICEF, BARCLAYS BANK, and Government partners.

-Organized successful capacity development and training for 219 program staff(adolescent leaders,Area Coordinators and Project Assistants) in Uganda. The staff always submitted monthly progress reports, from which monthly program reports were shared with all BRAC departments, through monthly coordination meetings and newsletters.

-I led a team in a manner that empowers them to deliver excellent service and high standards foster and sustain a positive, innovative and result based.

-Together with other department trainers, 200 adolescent mentors were trained in life skills and financial Literacy training and developed the capacities of program beneficiaries through trainings provided in different sectors. I contributed in the development of the program’s life skills and financial literacy training manuals.

-Prepared and disseminated financial, narrative and regular reports to UNICEF and all stakeholders.

-Managed the programme resources while ensuring effective and efficient usage and high standards of accountability and transparency.

-Provided overall responsibility for day to day operations, leadership, guidance and direction to achieve programme goals and objectives.

Senior Communications Officer of Livelihoods programs - BRAC in Uganda (August 2011– August 2013)

Duties

Establishing linkages with other organizations in similar youth developmental activities. Maintenance of all program documents and records, providing program progress during organizational meetings, report writing and any other duty assigned by the Program Manager. Designing quarterly activity plans, mobilizing relevant stakeholders for awareness raising. Making follow-ups and monitoring program activities.

-I organized the Global Learning Meeting (GLM) in Uganda in April 2013, on “Creating Opportunities for the next Generation”.

-I maintained and updated activity records and reports for mid-year reviews, advocated for the enactment of by-laws to address factors that led to child pregnancies and submitted progress and financial expenditure reports on time.
