Work Experience

Juvenile Court Counselor 06/2021- Present

40 hours per week- Full time

Salary: $45,584 per year

Supervisor: Randy Jones, 910-***-****

Assess juvenile and family needs to develop court reports and implement plans for treatment and complying with court orders. Monitor juvenile and family progress through home visits, residential placement, office, and school visits. Contact other human service agencies providing services to the family. Serve as the Intake Court Counselor and as a Supervision Court Counselor for Scotland County. Collaborate with the District Attorney’s office to determine legal sufficiency for alleged complaints brought to my office. Review Juvenile Justice policies and the North Carolina CRIMES book to ensure I use the correct charging language. I communicate with the District Attorney’s office and Public Defenders’ office before every court hearing to ensure court runs smoothly. Interview law enforcement officers and review investigation reports as they pertain to juvenile delinquency. I draw up complaints based on the facts in the investigation reports and conduct conferences with juveniles and their families. During these conferences, I gather enough information about the juveniles’ home lives, mental health, school, and friend groups. I use sound judgment when deciding whether to close, divert, or approve the petitions for court. I staff cases with my supervisor after I have come up with a decision. Being that I am flexible and cover two positions in my county, I also supervise juveniles on diversion contracts, pre-court ordered supervision, and probation. As a Court Counselor, I build a rapport with families and stakeholders to promote rehabilitation. I conduct monthly meetings with key players in the Juvenile Justice department to better serve families on a personal level.
