OTHER EXPERIENCE

I spent five years studying assisted living, taking a high-level certification course through the Residential Assisted Living Academy (RALA) to learn how to become the owner/operator of a residential assisted living home. I also took the CNA training to understand how a CNA is supposed to operate in these homes. I took classes in nutrition and safety. I took a job as a House Manager and caregiver (24/7) in a house for 6 residents. In that role I wore many hats: marketing (cold calling, social media); caregiver; cook; cleaning lady; marketing director. I was responsible for maintaining house systems (HVAC, security system, phone system, septic, sewer, etc.). I created SOPs. I liaised between the owner, the residents and the residents’ families. I then took another job as the Marketing Director at an 11-bed house and placed two residents in the home in two months before being let go for financial reasons.

I briefly worked for OneSource Senior Healthcare in Scottsdale, AZ as a patient assistant. Well after I left, the CEO called me to see if I would come back. It was a great job and gave me fantastic experience working with seniors, but the pay was too low to support a family of two. In this job I worked with podiatrists and optometrists at nursing homes and assisted living homes. I kept detailed notes for the doctors, organized them after work and submitted them to Admin.

•A friend had been trying to locate a formerly homeless man he had helped because he was working on a movie script about him. I tracked this man down in Tanzania and reconnected them.

•I decided to meet “Craig” of Craigslist to thank him for all the business I did through his site. I friended him on FaceBook, (friendly) stalked him and told him he had one choice -- the type of meeting (breakfast, lunch, dinner or coffee) so I could shake his hand. (He chose coffee.)

•I was traveling by air post 9/11 and had switched contents of my purse to take a smaller one. I made sure I had cash but somehow forgot my ID and credit cards. I convinced TSA to let me fly anyway.
