Experience

FedEx Supply Chain / Senior Enterprise Architect

JUNE 2021 - NOVEMBER 2023, Colorado Springs, CO

I served as the lead architect for FedEx Supply Chain by:

●Leading the company into the future by establishing organization-wide architecture standards that align with long-term business strategies using modern technologies.

●Modernizing our product offerings by evaluating and picking modern technologies, such as cutting-edge front-end UIs, microservice-based backends, API gateways, messaging backbones, data-driven storage solutions, cloud deployments, and the integration of multiple data stores to support comprehensive reporting and analysis.

●Saving the company millions of dollars by recommending the development of our own microservices to contain most of our specific business logic and bypassing paying the third party vendors to customize their software.

●Documenting the standards by using Sparx and Visio.

●Gaining acceptance from the entire organization through communications and presentations.

●Collaborating with a wide range of teams and individuals to chart a path towards a future of increasing reusability, decreasing costs, and improving the quality of our solutions.

●Enabling a future for data analysis and AI tools by serving as a Data and Cloud Architect in a new venture to bring in disparate data from many different systems into a data lake using Oracle Autonomous Database.

●Partnering with an internal FedEx team to leverage approved AI tools to advance the use of the collected data in the near future.

●Accelerating the development process by establishing an architecture review team to ensure proposed solutions align with our established architecture.

●Selling the above process by convincing multiple teams and individuals of the benefits of implementing this practice, which led to an overall increase in project movement to completion.

●Mentoring other team members to advance the capabilities and skills within our organization.

●Supporting the company with my willingness to wear multiple hats of other roles such as Systems Architect, Cloud Architect, Data Architect, and Security Architect. Example: Responding to my Senior VP's request to fulfill all of these roles for a project involving the rehosting in Azure of a vendor-hosted software solution for a key customer.

●Adaptability to benefit the organization by using my ability to quickly learn new capabilities and technologies, and then seeing how these new things can be integrated into our architecture.

FedEx Services / Domain Architect

JULY 2018 - JUNE 2021, Colorado Springs, CO

I served as the lead architect for Critical Inventory Logistics (CIL) by:

●Leading the organization into the future by establishing the architecture for our migration to a new core Warehouse Management System (Manhattan) coupled with modern edge microservices to augment the overall functionality of the solution

●Saving the company real money by partnering with other FedEx organizations to align on a standard WMS.

●Documenting this new architecture by using Sparx, Visio, and Draw.io.

●Accelerating overall delivery times by establishing and leading architecture reviews within the department to ensure that all newly developed modern web stack and supporting microservice solutions met the new, established standards.

●Maximizing resources by leading the tech leads to define and design the microservice components that augment the base functionality of the WMS while retaining full ownership of our business-specific logic.

●Saving millions by creating our own microservices instead of paying Manhattan to customize their software for these needs.

●Working outside the organization with architect peers in the othe FedEx organizations to learn from their experiences with vendor software.

●Serving as the lead Cloud Architect to ensure the successful deployment of both the Manhattan WMS and all of our new components into the brand new FedEx Logistics Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), which included quickly coming up to speed on their cloud technology and best practices including such things as dynamic scaling and health monitoring and then partnering with the System Architects and Tech Leads for the implementation.

●Establishing a long-term direction to migrate any remaining FedEx Data Center systems over to OCI.

●Guiding the System Architects and tech leads to establish a new presence in the API space for CIL, improving service for current clients and positioning the business to attract more customers with modern interfaces available in the new OCI environment.

FedEx Services / Technical Advisor

January 2003 - JULY 2018, Colorado Springs, CO

I served in both technical lead and architecture roles within the Clearance Systems department, contributing by fulfilling various responsibilities, including:

●Serving from the start as the technical lead for the critical Clearance sort system that is still used in all U.S. and Canadian international hubs, after my peers and management recognized my leadership skills while I was a contract worker at FedEx for 18 months before they hired me.

●Saving the company millions in mainframe costs by completing the conversion of all the hubs.

●Starting and serving on the key architecture review board to review new epics and features for approval to proceed to the Agile/SAFe planning phase.

●Collaborating with Enterprise Architects as the Clearance Domain Architecture representative on the team responsible for establishing the architectural framework for the new Itinerary Enterprise Foundation Service.

●Using Sparx and Visio to document the established standards and keep them up to date as needed.

●Leading architectural efforts in the ICS department to develop a new Cloud-ready approach for all new application development within the Clearance Systems.

●Serving as the architectural lead during the initial Clearance engagement with the newly established Enterprise Cloud Dojo team, which found us working hand in hand with the Dojo team to help define new standards to apply across the enterprise.

●Defining and implementing the architectural direction for adopting the Modern Web Stack in application development for the department, which encompassed multiple modernization initiatives. This included negotiating and obtaining approval for the use of industry-standard technologies, such as Angular, which was then adopted as the new standard across all of FedEx.
