US Navy Communications Technician, Interpreter. Attended language school in Washington D.C. to study modern, conversational Hebrew, taught by Israelis. Certification from World Institute of Translators. Worked at NSA, Langley & Embassy, Nicosia, Cyprus. University of Texas in Austin Taught Beginning Hebrew courses, years 1 and 2. All the other instructors for these courses were Israelis. All Hebrew courses and many of the Judaic Studies courses were taught in Hebrew, with all student discussion in Hebrew as well. World Bible Translation Center (WBTC) Fort Worth, Tx. 31 years as Translation Consultant and Director of Old Testament Translations. Was involved in translation and/or publication of Bibles in 35 different languages. Developed software for text editing, typesetting, and font development for Hebrew, Arabic, Eastern European languages, and a number of languages in India.
University of Texas at Arlington While working at WBTC, I received an MA in Linguistics and successfully defended dissertation proposal for PhD, Verb-initial Sentences in the Semitic Languages: The Interaction of Syntax and Pragmatics. Proposal submitted and approved. Began writing the Dissertation, but went beyond PhD time limit. Courses included a Professional Writing class, which included MLA & APA Publication Standards.
