Summary of Qualifications-

Mechanical Engineering, systems integration, and electro-mechanical design, with a current expertise in engineering and diagnostic technical support and training. Design experience includes new and reverse engineering techniques using Solid Works CAD and Rapid prototyping (FDM). Other qualifications include document control process, scope of work development, systems integration and test procedures, comprehensive reports, correspondence, and wide range of presentations using training aids and PowerPoint.

Strong skill and experience with, SolidWorks CAD, Microsoft Excel, Word, Power point, and MS Project. Refined ability to interface with customers and assist with sales as an active member of company representation and business development teams.

Career Experience:

Feb 2020 to present- Turret Punch Corp- CAD Engineer developing tooling and reverse engineering for new and existing polyurethan components. Provide consulting for potential new product lines and for existing customer part design upgrade opportunities.

Feb 2018 to present- Capitol GCS- Senior Project Engineer providing technical support for the conversion of Public Transit bus operations to full battery electric to meet emerging California Air Resources Board emissions regulations. Primary contributions include Project Management and technical support related to Bus Technology and Charging infrastructure requirements.

July 2015 to present- Bus Tech Partners Consulting, Principal- on staff at two local Engineering Service organizations focused on conversion of Public Transit bus operations to full battery electric. Primary contributions include Project Management and technical support for Advanced Vehicle Technology System Integration Zero Emissions Vehicle Projects at Los Angeles METRO and Fairfield. Transit Zero Emissions programs are needed to meet 2040 Federal Emissions Standards. Using SolidWorks CAD provide engineering services to Public Transportation Safety needed to develop, design, test, Project Management and technical representation of advanced pedestrian safety systems for transit and school buses.

December 2010 to July 2015- Johnson Matthey HDD- Senior Field Technical Support Engineer/Trainer- represented the company in California by providing Technical Support and Training for Dealer network required to achieve compliance with California Air Resources Board (CARB) heavy duty truck and bus exhaust reduction retrofit program requirements. Developed training program and diagnostic process to repair systems within standard repair times. Traveled extensively in support of Dealers in California and Mexico. Advised company on best practices in product integration onto existing vehicle systems.

June 2010 to August 2010- Big Bear American Made Choppers- Senior Vehicle Design Engineer- motorcycle design and documentation for hand crafted motorcycle product line. Primary role included component design using SolidWorks and creation of FDM rapid prototype models. Also redesigned the existing engineering space into a modern “Design Studio” to enhance the appeal of the company and technology to potential customers and investors. Worked closely with fabrication and machining experts in the improvement and development of system components.

February 2008 to October 2009- BAE Systems- Senior Systems Engineer, Compound Hybrid Fuel Cell Transit Bus Program- assigned to “first of its kind” FTA funded Compound Fuel Cell Demonstration Program designed to achieve a doubling in fuel economy of current heavy-duty public transit buses. Activities included System Specification development, trade study, SOW documentation for contracted sub-systems, monitor contracts and supervise off site vendor activities, manage supplier compliance to contract specifications, plan and conduct LRU, SIL, and integrated vehicle tests, CAN (J1939) architecture design, data acquisition and analysis, variable frequency motor control application, high voltage power distribution. Design of custom sheet metal enclosures with necessary heat transfer features and connector strategies for custom designed power and electronic control devices. Project included integration of advanced heavy-duty hybrid electric drive system, fuel cell auxiliary power generators, carbon fiber high-pressure hydrogen fuel storage system, conversion of mechanical drive hydraulic motors and air compressor to electric drive accessories. Also, assigned as “Lab Owner” responsible for “Health, Safety, and Environment” standards for HEV garage facilities.

May 2004 to February 2008- K&N Engineering- Product Design Engineer- Product Development Department Supervisor responsible for custom high-performance air filter product systems and tooling design for one of the most recognized automotive enthusiast companies in the world. Primary role included product and tooling design using SolidWorks and creation of FDM rapid prototype models. Initiated design features that expanded product offering to maintain a technical edge in the market leading to increased sales each year.

Design production tooling for carbon fiber composite components.

Design tooling for urethane cavity molds, pleated material cut fixtures, and adhesive seal applicators.

Create rapid prototype components directly from design assemblies for product testing.

1985-April 2003- LACMTA, Project Engineer, Technical Support and Vehicle Acquisition.

Bus Procurement Engineer- leading the transit industry in low emissions demonstrations and reduced fleet average emissions and actively involved with CNG and Alcohol powered vehicle evaluations. Vehicle procurement lead including Factory Inspection, Compliance Testing, Bus Specification preparation, Bidding activities, and BOD Reports beginning in 1985. During this period was able to implement significant technology shifts toward safer and more durable vehicle systems including application of programmable logic control architecture to improve reliability and operator safety; now an industry standard.

Emissions Compliance Project Engineer- Exhaust system after-treatment testing and EPA emissions compliance program manager for the largest all bus fleet in the United States. Testing included first use of mobile active “Carbon Trap” soot regeneration systems.

ATMS “Smart Bus” Engineer- Original steering committee member for the MTA’s Advanced Transit Management System Program to improve system safety and operational efficiency using advanced CAD (computer aided dispatch), GPS vehicle location, and Automatic Voice Annunciation (AVA).

On-Board Vehicle Security System- developed first large-scale program that implemented a system of on bus digital video recording systems with remote transmission functionality to reduce crime and exposure to litigation as a result of injury.

1977-1985, Valley Detroit Diesel, Manager of Engineering

Promoted to Department Manager responsible for up to 100 professional Engineers, designers and draftsman/CAD operators working on various high-profile Government and commercial generator system and ground vehicle projects exceeding 30 million dollars in product delivered annually.

Promoted to Project Engineer responsible for all activities related to generator system production, test and installation

Project Engineer designing combined heat and electric cogeneration systems including pneumatic controls and drive motors, hydraulic power units and motors used in commercial building standby power systems and offshore drilling rigs and fishing boats.

Started as Design Engineer designing and testing diesel standby electric generator systems

Design of advanced and custom power room modules and associated sheet metal cabinets for power distribution and control equipment.

Biography

Graduated with a B.S. Mechanical Engineering from California State Polytechnic University Pomona with Academic Awards in June 1977, including induction into Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Society. Love to travel with my family, refurbish cars and vintage motorcycles, home remodeling projects. Golf is a life long passion.
