The facility is for children, ages 5-17, that had been through traumatic events and are either waiting on a foster home to open up or approval to go back home or with a relative. At the beginning of each shift, 2 Residential Counselors are assigned per dorm, divided by age and birth gender (12 children max per dorm; 7 dorms in total).
Throughout the shift, both RC's help the children with their daily routine on dorm and in school during the day. We observe and document several things in 15 minute increments, such as: actions and mood; food/drink intake; hygiene and chores; 1:1/group therapy; phone calls; sleep patterns/positions; and morning, afternoon and evening medication intake with nursing.
