While English Literature is sometimes considered a “boring subject”, as a teacher, I came up with creative and fun ways to teach students using play / adventure based techniques. I had been the first teacher to use play-based techniques (that are typically used in kindergarten) to use them in a college setting (to make learning fun).

While teaching I was asked by the college Principal to help boost admissions. So, we developed an Admissions boosting program. Visiting local high schools, organizing college fairs (some even at local shopping Malls), Organizing College Cultural events and even distributing College Pamphlets. We had to be very creative. The College cultural events included dignitaries and sometimes even movie stars so that we could entice local residents to come and learn about the college. This was an uphill battle because, Rama Chopra was an all-girls college and even in today’s age there were Indian parents that had ancient beliefs that girls will eventually marry and raise kids and should not go to college. We even put together free computer classes on Saturdays. This helped us to maintain relationships with prospective students. The college cultural events took on a life of their own and drove donations for the collage. We were able to use some of those donations as scholarships for prospective students and also to upgrade our computer system to drive our admissions recruiting.

I also presented at University Grants Commission (UGC) Seminars to attract transfer students to our College. I also assisted prospective students through the entire admissions process (Evaluating transcripts, Interview, explain options, etc.).

Our admissions recruiting was boosted by 20% in a matter of two year.

All of the above admissions recruiting tasks was done in addition to my teaching duties.

I was also Editor of the annual English magazine of the College “Gyanakshi.”

This involved reviewing & writing articles, essays and poems. Managing the process from manuscript to final product.
