As a result, electrical foremen must be able to effectively manage people as well as projects. They need to be able to communicate clearly and inspire confidence in their team members so that they can get the best out of them. Electrical Foreman Job Duties

Electrical foremen typically have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

Inspecting and testing electrical equipment to ensure that it is safe and operating correctly, including light fixtures, smoke detectors, fire alarms, wiring, circuit breakers, transformers, and grounding systems

Supervising work crews in the installation, repair, or maintenance of electrical systems, including installation of electrical wiring, conduits, transformers, lighting, switches, breakers, fuses, power lines, junction boxes, etc. Coordinating the work of other contractors on site who are not directly involved in the electrical work

Recommending changes to electrical designs to ensure that they meet local codes and standards

Estimating materials needed for projects and ordering supplies from suppliers Working with architects and designers to determine the location of electrical components within a structure

Installing electrical devices such as light fixtures, outlets, switches, circuit breakers, dimmers, smoke detectors, and security cameras Inspecting wiring for faulty connections, shorts, or loose wires Determining the cause of electrical problems and recommending solutions to repair them

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials, and tools of the electrical trade.

Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.

Ability to supervise the work of skilled workers.

Considerable knowledge of the National Electrical Code for electrical installations. Ability to interpret and work from instructions, penciled plans and sketches, and blue prints.

Ability to communicate and coordinate with superiors, subordinates, vendors and university personnel.

Ability to estimate materials and labor costs.

Skill in the use and care of all hand and shop tools and equipment of the electrician's trade.

Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools

Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.

Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.

Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.

Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.

Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.

Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.

Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.

Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.

Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.

Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.

Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.

Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets.

Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects.

Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators, placing flares, and driving needed vehicles.
