Work History

Backup and Storage Administration, 11/2016 – 11/2023 Dish Network

Most recently deployed two PMAX2500’s using both FCP and NVMe/TCP. FCP is Brocade SAN. NVMe is Cisco model 9000 ACI spine and leaf.

Also designed a PMAX Cyber Vault using a PMAX2500 and PMAX2000. Dell Networker and Cybersense for scanning and detection. Did not get to deploy it.

Day to day maintained and managed numerous EMC and Dell storage arrays. VMAX, PMAX2000, PMAX2500, Unity, XIO, VNX, Data Domain. HPE storage arrays. 3PAR 8450 and 20850. Used Dell RP4VM for data replication. General skills with Netapp NAS storage. 8040 and 8300 using CDoT. Brocade SAN director and switch administration. Multiple fabrics and locations. vSphere 5,6 and 7 experience provisioning storage, deploying VM’s, troubleshooting host and storage issues and as a user . vSAN 7 experience.

Dell Networker backup administration. Deployed multiple DDVE’s. Veritas Backup Exec administration. Some experience with Netbackup.

Cloud tools have been creating AWS S3 buckets for general use. S3 for Quantum Flextier, Data Domain Cloud Tier for long term retention. Also configuration and use of FSx file gateways for non-PCI data and Volume Gateway for limited use presenting iscsi luns to on prem File Servers.

Storage and SAN Administrator, 04/2016 until 08/2016 Modis - Contracted to Computer Science Corporation Maintained and managed three IBM Gen 3 XIV’s, two EMC VMAX 40K’s, two EMC VNX and two EMC VG8’s, as well as EMC Cloud Tiering Appliances. About 5 PB total. We employed EMC RPA replication and IBM XIV native replication using VMWare SRM and IBM SRA.

Also 44 Brocade SAN switches from small to directors. Five data centers, Cisco, IBM and Dell servers. Storage and SAN Administrator, 05/2015 until 04/2016 Managed Software International- Contracted to Capgemini Maintained and managed five IBM v7000 Storage Arrays. Three SAN attached and two Unified (IP) totaling ~900TB located in two data centers, Atlanta and Virginia. Two Brocade SAN fabrics per site including FCIP replication in between. Remote Copy (Global Mirror), Flash Copy, and TPC. Architected and implemented the addition of two IBM Gen 3 XIV’s, one per site. I configured replication and SAN expansions as required. That was an additional ~528TB. Total responsibility was ~ 1.4PB. Storage Area Network Systems Engineer, 08/2006 to 12/2014 Brocade Communications – 110 Holger Way, San Jose California 95134 Design Storage Networking Solutions using Fiber Channel, FICON, iSCSI, FCoE and conventional IP networking technologies. These networks range from small private solutions to large multi-tenant and private SaaS Clouds with and without encryption. Customer examples include IBM Smart Cloud, American Express, Target Corporation, IBM Watson, Ameriprise Financial and Computer Sciences Corporation. Experience trouble shooting and maintaining IBM SVC, XIV, DS5000, DS8000, V7000 and TS7700. HDS AMS, VSP and UCP plus legacy storage arrays (99XX/95XX). Most EMC storage solutions. Design local and remote data backup, disaster recovery and data replication solutions. These included IBM SVC Global Mirror, DS8000 GM, PPRC, XRC and native IP replication. HDS TrueCopy and HUR. Created Best Practices documentation related to maintenance, monitoring and management for all of these solutions.

Major contributor in designing the new CSC SaaS Data Center in Chicago. Brocade SAN fabrics with AMS and UCP storage, UCS servers. ~500TB with growth built in. Migrated Ingersol Rand from Pittsburgh to CSC Chicago using HUR. First customer for the CSC SaaS environment. Brocade FCIP network in between.

Network Architect and National Solutions Consultant, 01/2005 to 08/2006 McData Corporation – Broomfield, CO

Brocade acquired McData in approximately August 2006. Design Storage Networking Solutions using McData technology, Fibre Channel and FICON. Extensive design work for various data back up solutions using storage virtualization and virtual tape technology. These technologies include Net-backup, TSM, Dilligent, Data Domain, IBM TS7000, FalconStor IPStor and VTL. Storage Solutions Architect, 03/2003 to 01/2005

Computer Network Technologies (CNT) – Maple Grove, MN McData acquired CNT in January 2005.

CNT manufactured Mainframe Channel Extension networking hardware. Responsible for design and implementation these networking solutions. This included channel extended print, tape and DASD. CNT also resold EMC and HDS storage as well as Data Domain and FalconStor Virtual Tape. Created data back up and storage solutions using products from all of these vendors. Storage Systems Engineer - Western Region, 03/1999 to 03/2003 Hitachi Data Systems – San Jose, CA

Pre-Sales Storage Systems Engineer. Designed storage solutions using HDS products for customers all around the Western United States.
