• Developed a progressive site-specific safety, health & training system utilized in four locations including Spanish Fork, Utah, Louviers, Colorado, Wolf Lake, Illinois and Dynamita, Mexico.
• Organized and led a Safety Committee that got employees closest to the risk directly involved in meaningful safety work to reduce risk, injuries and provide required safety training.
• Awarded the Utah Safety Council’s “Individual Achievement in Safety Award” in 1998. This award is presented each year in recognition of being the top safety professional in the state.
• While at Ensign-Bickford, led safety improvement efforts that resulted in being awarded “The Utah Labor Commission’s Workplace Safety Award” in 1998. (This was the only Explosives Company to ever win this prestigious award.)
• As a result of continuous improvement efforts in safety, worker’s compensation costs dropped from an annual high of approximately $500K to sustained levels of approximately $25K.
• Established and solidified strong working relationships with the Utah Labor Commission (UOSH), Utah Safety Council, The Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational & Environmental Health, State of Utah Comprehensive Emergency Management Group, the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), local Fire Departments, local Police Departments, other regulatory and emergency response organizations.
• Developed and implemented site & industry specific programs for incident & injury prevention, wellness, audits/inspections, safety awards, OSHA reporting, OSHA compliance, worker’s compensation, and Process Safety Management (PSM).
• Developed and implemented a wide variety of site and industry specific standard operating procedures giving employees specific step-by-step instructions on various manufacturing, safe handling, and industrial operation tasks.
• Developed a repetitive motion injury prevention process that included improved engineering controls, advanced training and behavior improvement elements. Networking with medical providers on developing & implementing best practice exercise & stretching techniques was a major part of this effort.
• Had a leading role in starting up a new Explosives manufacturing facility in Louviers, Colorado. Safety and standard operating procedure training and oversight were at the heart of this effort.
