Work Experience

Foreman/Journeyman

SMART Local #9 - Denver, CO

March 2019 to Present

Because I didn’t go through their apprenticeship program and a member for 10-30 years they won’t hire anyone in as a Foreman. Which I respect seniority and respect their process so I was hired in as a Journeyman and crazy enough made more money then I was as a Foreman/Superintendent at the last private company I had worked for. There’s around 30-50 companies that are part of Local #9 so you can pick and choose what company and also the project that you would like to be involved in. I started with U.S. Engineering remodeling an existing store ( Urban Outfitters) at the Cherry Creek Mall. After that project was completed I hired on with Murphy’s Mechanical working at an existing Bio-Pharma Company installing new ductwork, air handlers and 2 rtu’s to a previously unfinished area of the building. Then along came Covid in 2020 and still with Murphy’s Mechanical we installed a massive exhaust system at St. Anthony’s North in an area for recovering Covid patients but instead of doing hospital after hospital the federal contracts were put on hold. I transferred to Air Systems Mechanical and was working on a resort up by Bailey, CO which was eventually closed down after a month or so do to Covid. So our crew went to Columbine High and did the remodels of the boys/girls locker rooms and then we were laid off due to Covid and lack of work. We tried going back to work in 2021 but the supply chain was broke and getting materials was next to impossible. So worked off and on in 2021. 2022 I went to Trautman and Shreve Mechanical and did a lot of replacement work for the Denver Public School District, replacing ductwork, air handlers, rtu’s etc. and we were done in the 2nd week of November and I took a lay off mainly for the holidays and also the next project they had was in Ft. Collins and I needed to be in Denver Metro at that time.

Superintendent

Bruce Mechanical - Denver, CO

February 2016 to June 2019

In charge of the downtown projects which I had 5 by the time I moved on from Bruce Mech. in 2019. I met with the Foremen’s on a daily basis, made sure they had the manpower and material that they needed to be successful and also safe . Safety is a huge part of my crews and if anyone doesn’t take it seriously I fire them on the spot. I like to be open with my crews so they know where I stand and vice versa. Come up with a game plan and stick to it unless we find out it’s not going to work as well as we once thought. I truly keep an open door policy with my crews and I don’t want them to ever feel that they can’t talk to me about anything.

Foreman/Supervisor

MAI Mechanical - Denver, CO

February 2014 to January 2016

I oversaw 2 of their biggest projects one was in Ft. Collins and it was a 24 building apartment complex with a crew of 30+ . A lot of meetings with the other trades, foreman’s, superintendent’s, GC’s and the owners-Investors. It was constant . I was putting in 60-80 hours a week on that job and it showed. We always met our deadlines, we rarely failed an inspection and when we did it was so minute we could have it fixed and passed within a half hour. The second project was off of Colfax and Wadsworth HVAC Tech/ Air Brake Tech

American Railway - Denver, CO

May 2009 to October 2011

We rebuilt 24 rail cars for museums and private collections. The cars were originally built in the early 1900’s . I replaced all of the old HVAC systems and whatever ductwork there was . I also went to Chicago and got an Air Brake certification through Amtrak so I could design and replace all of the brake systems. HVAC Tech & QMP

Grand Luxe Railway - Hudson, CO

February 2007 to March 2009

It was a luxury passenger train. I maintained all of the HVAC equipment and did most of the plumbing as well . I was also a certified qualified mechanic person for the railroad and made repairs on the rail cars as needed.

Lead Journeyman/ Foreman

COBB MECHANICAL CONTRACTORS - Colorado Springs, CO October 2004 to October 2006

2 projects over 2 years with them. Elements school in Arvada. I was a Lead Journeyman and had 5 guys on my crew. Basically hung trunk line, 10” heat runs, cold air returns, shaft duct that we could only put 2 pieces together and drop them in with the crane. Set the curbs and then the rtu’s. I actually stayed after the crew left and helped the balance tech balance the system because he was short handed and I have experience with that. Then the next project was a 15 story University of Colorado Science and Technology building on the Anschutz campus. We did everything that had to do with HVAC. Apprentice/Service Install Tech

Sunrise Heating and Air Conditioning - Colorado Springs, CO August 1998 to March 2004

Family company. My dad had been in the HVAC business for 30 years at that point in time and I did my apprenticeship with him which was a 5 year apprenticeship. We mainly did residential retrofits, a/c add on’s or replacement, electronic air cleaners, humidifiers, T stats etc. We would do a couple of custom homes, new construction each year and a lot of basement remodels. Also a lot of service work. My parents wanted to get into real estate and I wanted to get into commercial so they closed the business and I moved to the Denver area.
