During assisting I assist in the patients’ mouth with the surgeon and hand the surgeon the correct instruments, while suctioning the patient to make sure their airway remains patent to prevent a laryngospasm and or bronchospasm. While I’m anesthesia assisting I keep the tray clean during surgery and section off all the instruments as they’re being used and placed back on the tray during surgery. I’m also monitoring the patients’ vitals and taking ECGS every 5 minutes. When the surgery is finished I recover the patient, clean the room, make sure they are stable enough then remove the I.V. and bring their escort back and explain all important post-op instructions to the escort as well as the patient. I also wash trays, set up trays and put them in the autoclave for proper sterilization. We also keep the office cleaned and restocked throughout the day.
