As a full time Anesthesia assistant and a surgeons assistant, I assist in General anesthesia surgeries, such as: Wisdom teeth extractions, implants, THIS ( uncovering of the implants), Laser treatments, Bone grafts, and biopsies. I bring patients back and set them up depending on their procedure from the treatment plan. During assisting I assist in the patients’ mouth with the surgeon and hand the surgeon the correct instruments, while suctioning the patient to make sure their airway remains patent to prevent a laryngospasm and or bronchospasm. While I’m anesthesia assisting I keep the tray clean during surgery and section off all the instruments as they’re being used and placed back on the tray during surgery. I’m also monitoring the patients’ vitals and taking ECGS every 5 minutes. When the surgery is finished I recover the patient, clean the room, make sure they are stable enough then remove the I.V. and bring their escort back and explain all important post-op instructions to the escort as well as the patient. I also wash trays, set up trays and put them in the autoclave for proper sterilization. We also keep the office cleaned and restocked throughout the day. Medical Assistance
Working a temporary full-time position as a medical assistance has enhanced my skills and abilities to gain more experience in the medical field. Performing as a medical assistance, I received incoming calls from patients to schedule appointments, electronically processed patient's information and collected co-payments upon their registration, and retrieved patient's charts. I triaged patients which included; taking blood pressure, temperature, glucose readings, weight, height, and Spo2 levels, and their pulse. I provided injections to the patients when instructed by the doctor and assisted with pap smears when needed. I was trained to hook the patients up to an EKG machine to obtain accurate reading for their heart. I provided other duties that was assigned to me and made sure that the patient charts were filed and the all the rooms were cleaned and prepared for the next patient. Medical Assistant Back Office
