AFS – Senior Technical Programmer

AFS ‘focus was converting financial organizations to work within their software referred to as “VISION.” VISION was programmed to handle the banks OBLIGOR, OBLIGATION, COLLATORAL and ESCRO data online and reporting systems. This product was designed to first work in the MAINFRAME, MICRO FOCUS COBOL, VSAM/DB2/ORACLE/SQL, SERVER/LINUX, and PUDDY environments. Programs, JCL, Parm Libraries and datafiles were loaded via FTP, to the distributed environment and processed to load API data to Access tables to view in their online Vision System. My responsibilities using DEVOPS as a SDLC development practice, are as follows:

Endeavor used for mainframe source management. When abend situations occurs and a fix must be applied to production source code or enhancements are required, Endeavor was used retrieve elements from production, make changes to elements, adding or updating elements into test environment for compiling and unit testing, and using packages to move into QA environment for testing. In emergency situation programs move back into a emergency prod environment.

Using a BASE system for a new bank, copy all BASE JCL, PROGRAMS, UTILITIES, PARM LIBS, etc., to a mainframe PDS and modify all that applies to conform to the standards of the new bank.

During conversion of various banks, using JIRA requirements test modification on the mainframe and FTP programs to the Micro Focus Distributed system in LINUX for distributed unit testing. This would include any modifications made to JCL, Programs, utilities and parm libs converted from BASE system. Both unit, integrated and migration testing was used before programs moved to production environments.

Using Oracle Developer created SQL statements required to review updated tables updated in loading process.

Using subversion software, created databases, and tables set up to load data to be reviewed in ACCESS.

Attended all Jira meetings, reporting on progress for all responsibilities during defined requirements.

Report to project managers all updates verbally and using Jira Comments.

Participated in dry runs and dress rehearsals before final conversion of banks. This endeavor required a 2am start time which lasted 12 hours.

Lead Team in a major history conversion project. The conversion team had three members. My management responsibilities were to modify existing systems to conform to all new bank standards, modify programs by cloning modifications made for other banks, test JCL and verify program results. Set up step by step execution with other members’ projects and led them to final stages that not only created desired reports, but also zipped output to move to drive for FTP transmission. For 2 years I was assigned to AFS (Automated Financial Systems) as a Senior Technical Programmer. DRC’s client, Homesite insurance, provides the platforms necessary for various insurance companies to manage and support their business. In a SQL Server environment, utilizing MF-Cobol, and Visual Basic online procedures, solutions were implemented to meet various state requirements. As a Senior Consultant, DB2 tester and developer, my daily activities using Agile as a standard SDLC approach to project management, included, reviewing all production parallel test jobs in 5 regions to identify and correct all DB2 abends which occur in the programs developed in Cobol. Market data is populated in tables and accessed by marketing users. Any issues developed during evening testing must be corrected.

Responsible for the review of any jobs that have not been abended but are awaiting execution because Control-M scheduler. Responsible for the execution of these jobs which involves working in Control-M to review the Pre-Requirement executions and make corrections, when necessary, to get the jobs executed. Make the decision to force complete or run the jobs waiting.

Endeavor source code management used for modifications and additions to production environment.

Also, responsible for testing any job that has data issues in the DB2 tables. This includes running SPUFI and Insync to review the data in the tables that have issues. Each member of the team has work requests that contain data issues which require testing to determine the issue and make corrections.

06/2000 – 06/2018 FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF PHILADELPHIA Senior Technical Specialist

As a team member joined in the effort to genericize all programs utilized by all Federal Reserve Banks CPCS and Cash Letter Systems. This system processed paper checks through sorters which created Vsam files containing check transactions. The Vsam data was used to update IMS tables. This system was written in Cobol, IMS, CICS and Vsam. Using the SDLC Waterfall approach to project management, we were responsible for the design, code, unit/ SQA test and production support on all converted systems. Unit, integrated and migration testing was used before programs moved to production environments.

As a team member participated in the consolidation of all Federal Reserve Banks in the country. After conversion lead the effort to maintain the Cash Letter System for Federal Reserve Banks throughout the country. I was responsible for all modifications, testing and implementation of changes to the system.

Aided in the conversion was the Check 21 systems which was a Paperless Entry Processing system for all Reserve Banks, which allowed check images to be processed. The Cash Letter System was modified to accept data into the CLS payment system using input from Check 21 system, FEDWIRE and ACH File processing (used to electronically send and receive funds in a batch environment), FTP transmissions were used to send data to servers controlled by various banks. I continued to maintain and lead all projects that were used to maintain the CLS system. After 8 years of support and maintenance of the CLS system, CLS was taken off the mainframe and rewritten on a distribution platform created by IBM. I worked with IBM as an advisor to help them understand the CLS system.

Lead the process to maintain the Treasury Control System written in IMS DB/DC and DB2. The maintenance was done remotely and in Philadelphia Federal Reserve office.

Participated in a lead role in a three-year multi-phase effort to design a process written in Cobol to warehouse Treasury Payment data from the mainframe DB2 environment into tables accessed in Oracle. This data was used to feed the Post Payment Processing System. Millions of records were transmitted (FTP) into the Post Payment Process Servers. In design met with client community to identify what data would be selected and eliminated to create warehouse data in the tables designed in Oracle.

Participated in the Treasury disaster recovery procedures for all test and production systems. Converted DB 2 to recent processing versions; version 6 to 7, and 7 to 8. The conversions consisted of modifying and parallel test of all OSJCL job streams, and programs in test and production libraries.

I trained in SharePoint and created a SharePoint POC (Proof of Concept) duplicating a Cold Fusion online application which was the system used for the environment. This helped users build a confidence level with SharePoint that was becoming a standard in the environment.

Using SQL-SERVER’s report writer software (SSRS), lead effort to design and code all new report programs that could interface with a SharePoint online system. The data was converted from ACCESS to DB2 before utilized to populate the cash reports.

Transferred in 2013 to the PPS (Post Payment System). I was responsible for the creation of the Web Focus team and was responsible for the development of 200 reports in WEBFOCUS interfacing with Oracle Developer.

Since 2007 all utilities and Job Control have operated under a Z/OS environment.

WebFOCUS responsibilities included:

Created and technically managed Web Focus team that would be responsible for the design, programming and implementation of all reports generated from Oracle tables. The SDLC approach to endeavors was a combination of DEVOPS, and Waterfall.

Assist with the gathering of report requirements for new reports and the conversion of reports already in mainframe production environment.

Converted 100 report programs written for Bank Fraud system that was originally written in Web Focus with an HTML menu into a more structured user friendly, maintainable system allowing the input of parameters to access database information to populate the Web Focus reports.

Design and developed over 200 programs in Using Info Assist, and CSS(Cascading Style Sheets). Programs included parameter driven menus, drilldowns, and detail summarization with minor and grand total generation.

Create SQL stored procedures to be accessed by Web Focus reports. Data was also accessed utilizing Web Focus data extraction methods.

Modified HTML code generated by Web Focus (Java Script), when necessary.

Web Focus was used to execute stored procedures to access data.

Used Oracle Developer to create tables and modify data for unit testing.

Presented the Unit tested reports to client before moving into a QA environment.

Assist QA with the quality testing of the programs which include trouble shooting testing issues. Many issues were due to the executing of old versions of the programs and the creation of QA data that was not constructed to correctly test the programs.
