PROMEDICA SKILLED NURSING AND REHABILITATION (FORT MYERS-EAST)

ADMINISTRATOR/EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JUNE 2021-FEBRUARY 2022

Responsible for all areas of operation for a 120 bed skilled nursing facility. This includes

administrative and regulatory responsibility for clinical services, human resources,

financial and budgeting, quality assurance and performance improvement, life safety

and facility renovation initiatives.

Assisted our clinical team to improve from a Medicare quality rating of two stars to four.

First facility in the region to achieve a 95% occupancy. Facility had a census of 87 or 73.5% occupancy when I started with Promedica.

Successfully managed and mitigated the effects of three COVID-19 outbreaks impacting our patients and staff.

PRHC

Responsible for all clinical, operational, financial, and regulatory issues.

Assisted in the development of a management contract between Lee County and our PRHC Board of Directors aimed at privatizing the county owned 180 bed skilled nursing facility.

Stabilized PRHC both operationally and financially preventing the facility from returning to Lee County after a lengthy privatization process.

Negotiated successful purchase agreement between Lee County and PRHC for the purchase of the county owned 180 bed skilled nursing facility.

Identified and discussed purchase options with numerous lenders resulting in a successful purchase transaction completed in July 2005.

Completed Lee County industrial development authority application necessary to obtain tax exempt municipal bond financing for the PRHC purchase project.

Successfully transitioned a county owned facility with county employees and county benefits to non-governmental programs.

Improved facility cash position significantly from $90,000 in January 2001 to $2.1 million as of August 2007.

Developed and executed strategy to specialize in orthopedic post-surgical care by improving and investing in the facility’s rehabilitation and nursing programs. This also involved working with local orthopedic surgeons.

Developed contractual relationships with MCO’s in order to meet the needs of orthopedic physicians.

Reengineered and improved the facility QA/RM process which helped PRHC achieve a 12 percent rehospitalization rate.

Increased participation in the facility family council by approximately 300% resulting in active participation with Florida Health Care Association’s “family forum” a grass roots lobbying program designed to assist FHCA legislative efforts.

Increased MCR / Short Term Rehabilitation census approximately 250% as a result of the successful orthopedic program.

Redesigned corporate 401(k) plan in fiscal year 2001 with employee participation increasing 100% since fiscal year 2000.

Successfully coordinated and actively participated in the Joint Commission accreditation process and survey.

Coordinated and participated in approximately 40 combined state and federal health quality and life safety licensure surveys.

Planned and coordinated numerous renovation and improvement projects for the facility.

Created and oversaw annual operating budgets of $22 million and program proformas, as required.

Responsible for Medicare and Medicaid Cost Reports, Credit Balance Reports, and FYE Audits

Revised corporate self-insured health plan annually to achieve targeted health plan costs.

Designed and implemented changes to corporate structure resulting in the formation of corporate entities (PHC, PHF) as listed above.

Implemented exit strategy as approved by the BOD’s in 2018 to locate potential buyers for PRHC, negotiate the transaction, and with Board approval, execute the transaction. PRHC sales transaction was completed on December 31, 2018.

AAHC

Responsible for all clinical, operational, financial, and regulatory issues.

Developed and executed strategic plan to diversify into home health. In 2007 AAHC began operations and has grown to over 1,500 admissions per year. On June 1, 2019, AAHC expansion was approved by the state to operate in Collier, Hendry, and Charlotte counties. AAHC developed a highly successful orthopedic program supported by many local orthopedic surgeons.

Successfully coordinated CHAP (Community Health Accreditation Partners) Medicare certification and licensure surveys.

Created annual operating budgets and proformas, as required.

Developed contracts with MCO’s with business partner, Managed Care Consultants of Florida. This strategy was necessary due to the increased market penetration of MCO’s and to assist our referral sources who were also being impacted.

Due to a change in direction by the Board of Directors late in 2019, they requested that an exit plan be developed for AAHC so that they could focus on the foundation and community charity and giving programs. Plan was discussed and approved by the Board of Directors and the sale of AAHC was finalized on October 5th, 2020.

PHF

Initiated and created PHF at the time of the purchase of PRHC for the purpose of liability protection.

Managed all regulatory and operational activities of the foundation.

Coordinated charitable and fundraising activities for the benefit of PRHC patients, residents, family members, and staff.
