With over 22 years of professional experience as Marine Engineering Artificer in charge of engine room watch-keeping, machinery operation and maintenance, I have operated, serviced and overhauled several makes and sizes or series of Diesel engines which include MTU, Perkins, Detroit, Cummins, Caterpillar, MWM, GM-Motors, and Volvo Penta. I have efficiently performed the duties of a Diesel Mechanic both ashore and offshore including repairs and diagnostics. I am confident my adaptability, resilience, hands-on experience in diesel engine operation and maintenance, and technical knowledge and training would make me a perfect fit for the position.

Currently, in my role at Nigerian Navy as Marine Engineering Artificer, I manage the engine rooms and regularly carry out routine maintenance and servicing of all sizes of diesel generators according to the Planned Maintenance Scheme. Also, I do effectively perform top overhauling and full overhauling of the diesel engines of generators and propulsion engines. Ashore, I handle the fresh water cooled engines while I perform the same functions onboard while offshore with sea water cooled diesel engines. I recall the various instances of hard starting of Perkins, Detroit, MTU and Volvo diesel engines which led me and my team to carry out bleeding of the fuel system and servicing of the injector nozzles including pressure-testing of the nozzles to ensure proper fuel atomization and spray quality of the diesel fuel for quick starting and efficient performance of the engine.

Being the engine room Artificer, I do carry out valve tappet clearance setting to arrest low mechanical power output and malfunctioning of the Detroit Diesel generator engines onboard NNS OBULA, being one of the four Cat Class of ships in the fleet of the Nigerian Navy. I regularly use the exhaust smoke analysis and engine sound analysis to monitor the operation and performance of my engines whenever I am on active duty with proper attention to every safety rules. My engine log book and other daily details book are being kept to date for keeping track of the activities and work orders being executed on the engines. As a Diesel Mechanic, I ensured that the daily toolbox meetings are part of my daily tasks to be in attendance and ensure compliance with extant regulations relating to safety and proper machinery management both ashore and offshore.

I am fiercely competitive in my approach and attitude to work. Although, I am easy going and docile, yet I am apt and meticulous to technical details and up to date on all the latest trends, and can bring up more innovative ideas touching on better approaches to engine management.
