Since I was a kid I have always loved athletics. I have been a swimmer all my life which gave me interest in being a lifeguard. After being a member of the Hollywood YMCA for 11 years I wanted a job and being a lifeguard was very interesting because I enjoy the water and I enjoy helping people. Before I got hired as a lifeguard at the YMCA, I did 10 months of volunteer work as an assistant swim instructor and dressed up as the aquatics mascot wearing a duck costume and taking photos with kids. Before I even started volunteering, I had to get a live fingerprinting scan done. In order to become a lifeguard I had to take an online course followed by a 3 day course in person and I had to be really physically fit to be a lifeguard. I took 2 courses at West Valley Occupational Center. These courses were Physical Therapy Aide and Sports Therapeutics. Both courses were very similar and taught us many skills such as therapeutic exercises, medical terminology, how to use certain therapeutic exercise equipment, massage skills, and much more. I also have a lot of experience doing volunteer work at First Christian Church of North Hollywood. Such work includes cooking, washing dishes, serving food, painting houses, construction and deconstruction work, washing cars, serving as a diaconate, handing out flyers for their annual Christmas tree lot, public speaking, and acting in plays/skits. All of these activities have given me good reviews by people. I have been a scare actor at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood for 4 years. I really loved it because I enjoy performing and scaring people and it gave me some professional experience as an actor. When I became a scare actor I naturally learned how to discipline myself because this was a job I was really passionate about. The more passionate you are about something the more self disciplined you will be. Willing to relocate: Anywhere

Lifeguard

Cooksey's Lifeguard and Swim Academy

April 2022 to Present

Work at whichever location we're assigned to work at that day. Arrive at our assigned location on time. Perform a safety check scanning the pool deck and the bathrooms and locker rooms. Remain vigilant at all times monitoring the safety of the swimmers and patrons. Count the number of patrons in the pool and deck every half hour. Place and remove lane lines in and from the pool accordingly with the facility's schedule. Immediately respond to an emergency involving an injury or casualty and perform CPR or First Aid until the EMS arrives. Notify the patrons when we leave and flip the signs on the lifeguard chairs which say "No lifeguard on duty. Swim at your own risk" Place lifeguard equipment back in its original place before leaving. Always have valid certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard. Crew Member

AMC Theatres - Universal City, CA

November 2022 to May 2023

At AMC, every staff member gets a chance to work in every position. We work whichever position we are assigned to that day. Positions include usher, cashier, greeter, porter, bartender, barista, dishwasher, and food preparer. The majority of the time I was assigned as a cashier at the concessions stand. My tasks included knowing how the cash register worked, sweeping the floor when it was slow, restocking on cups, straws, candy, and other items if I was ever running low, and getting the candy carts from storage if I was opening and putting the carts back in storage if I was closing. It was also our duty to clean the condiments station and the freestyle soft drink machines when we closed. If the freestyle soft drink machines were ever running low on a certain beverage, it was our responsibility to restock the cartridges of that beverage it was running out of. When ushering, it was our responsibility to keep the theater clean and presentable for the next showing. We were also responsible for taking out the trash whenever it was full or overflowing. If there were no theaters clearing out, we would sweep the floors throughout the theater in the meantime. Whenever we worked in the kitchen and closed, we were to clean out the fryer machines as well as the popcorn machine, and wash the dishes and set them up on the dish rack for the morning crew to store back in place when they open, and mop the floor once everything is cleaned. Steward

Universal Studios Hollywood - Universal City, CA

July 2021 to March 2022

As a steward at Universal Studios Hollywood, my main priority was doing dishes. I worked at multiple venues throughout the park and worked at whichever one I was assigned to work at that day. Each venue had its differences, some had a machine to run the dishes through and some only had the 3 sink process. If it was ever slow and I didn't have any dishes to do I would mop the floors and the walk in refrigerators, take out the trash, spray down the walls, or clean anything that needed to be cleaned in the kitchen. The dishes that were too big to run through the machine or fit in the sinks were cleaned in an outdoor dishwashing machine. If I ever worked a closing shift I had to clean down any grills or surfaces with degreaser before leaving.

Swim Instructor

Australian Swim School - Tarzana, CA

April 2021 to March 2022

Be ready to teach swim classes on time. Teach the correct skills for each level. Use equipment if necessary. Set up lanes, mats and platforms in the right places. Teach kids basic pool safety rules. Assist kids when necessary. When they're able to swim on their own and gained the confidence, let them swim on their own. Remove platforms from pool when lessons are over and put lanes back in place so the lap pool is back to normal.

Scare Actor

Universal Studios Hollywood - Universal City, CA

August 2017 to November 2021

Being a scare actor at Universal Studios Hollywood is a seasonal job that lasts a month and a half. It was for their seasonal Halloween event, Halloween Horror Nights. First I had to audition for it in the first weekend of July which is when they have the auditions. After auditioning, I had to wait for an email letting me know I got casted and when I did I had to fill out all the legal paperwork, and attend a job orientation where I find out my character and take a hearing test which is required for the job since I was going to be working in a loud environment so they needed to make sure my hearing was in good health. After finding out my character I had to schedule an appointment where they measure my costume to make sure it fits. On my assigned rehearsal date I had to be at Universal Studios where I meet my castmates, take mask measurements, and practice scaring in my work location in the park. Every night of Halloween Horror Nights I was required to arrive at my designated call time, pick up my assigned costume and prop, and get makeup done if makeup was required for my role. I had to stay in good shape as I was going to spend 4 nights a week scaring people and moving aggressively for hours at a time. I had to be at my work location on time, and be on set in costume on time. I was also required to wear earplugs while on set to protect my hearing. If I was ever physically attacked or harmed, I was supposed to immediately get off set and report the guest or guests who assaulted me to have them caught and escorted from the park as soon as possible. At the end of every night I had to return my assigned costume and prop and remove my makeup before clocking out. I am a 4 year veteran at Halloween Horror Nights and plan on continuing this job for many years to come. I really enjoy this job as it is an honor to be part of the show at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Dishwasher

Buca di Beppo - Universal City, CA

February 2021 to September 2021

When washing dishes, rinse them and then place them on a dish rack and put them through the dishwashing machine. After plates and bowls are clean stack them up on the clean dishes shelf. Consistently carry pans and trays from the kitchen and bring them to the sinks to manually wash them. Make sure they're washed, rinsed, and sanitized in that order before returning them to the kitchen. When cup racks are full place them through the dishwashing machine and then stack them on a roller for cup racks. At the end of the night wash all the containers and equipment and then put them back in their original place. Squeegee the floors after the kitchen closes. Take out the trash at the end of the night. Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Hollywood Wilshire YMCA - Los Angeles, CA

April 2016 to August 2018

Being a lifeguard requires vigilance and awareness at all times. In order to be a lifeguard I needed certifications from the American Safety and Health Institute which included CPR Pro, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Care, aswell as a Lifeguard certification for whatever place I work for. I first had to take an online course and then take a 3 day in person course where we did hands on training where we performed emergency rescue procedures in a pool as well as pass a hand written test for each of my certifications to receive them. Every month I was required to attend a monthly staff meeting where we review the skills we learned when getting our certifications. While on duty it was my responsibility to maintain the safety of all patrons in the pool and on the pool deck, keeping my eyes on the pool and deck at all times. I was also responsible for testing the pool water temperature and doing a chemical test measuring the chlorine and PH levels every 3 hours. If there was a problem with the pool or any equipment, I had to report it and close the pool until it was safe for the members to swim. Whenever an emergency involving a casualty occurred in the pool or anywhere in the gym, the lifeguards were required to respond to the situation immediately using a code on the walkie talkie to tell the front desk to call the EMS/911 and perform a rescue procedure in the pool and perform CPR or First Aid while a trainer brings the AED and clears out the pool while we continue CPR/First Aid until the paramedics arrive. If an incident involving an injury or casualty occurred outside of the pool, a floor staff member would use the same code on the walkie talkie which calls for the front desk to call the EMS/911 and the lifeguards to arrive at the scene bringing an AED with them and performing CPR/First Aid until the paramedics arrive. After an incident occurs involving an injury or casualty or anything suspicious or unlawful for that matter, fill out an incident report afterwards.
