Computer Software

Microsoft

May 2007 - Jun 2007 (2 months)

I used Java for five months, on the front end, and used straight C on the backend in our client/server system. We used IBM's Eclipse IDE editor.

This was a multi-platform project (Sun, Windows, Windows Server 2003, DEC Alpha, and HP Unix).

The dozen or so people on the team were spread out over three offices around the country, so this was agile software development.

I created a proof of concept, that the new NMC wizard would talk to the EMC s latest NetWorker. This was done with real live code, the previous releases as a platform, and the NMC framework that had been added to the dev release.

It does work of course. EMC uses their own proprietary GUI, which are oily files that get compiled into oil files, which are just like Microsoft gadgets, or similar MS dialog templates.

I built the entire NMM plug-in module, from scratch.

To test the remote agent, I had to attach with Microsoft's 2005 Team Studio IDE.

I was a dev manager for the NGA dedicated archive, which was successfully delivered on 4/18/05.

This was a multi-million dollar project for NGA. My tasks were the GUI, written in WPF C# web development in the Microsoft ASP.NET Frame, 1.0 and 1.1 architecture, on a Windows XP environment.

We also used Microsoft's Visual Studio 2003, and MapDotNet, a library of Java modules that greatly improved app development. I did developed code, did interviews, setup meetings, and pitched the prototype to upper executive board. I built the prototype, and foundation for the project, along with a dozen features.

This was a DHTML based web application that ran on a six terabyte Microsoft 2003 server, with an external ADIAC tape system. The user would login to the archive portal, and order geospatial content from it. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), in the Department of Defense, partners with NOAA to provide critical nautical information to the general public. Many of our images were seen during the weather reports, like hurricane Katrina for example. Our satellite captured the 7th St. Bridge levee breach in progress. The North Korean train wreck was another famous and declassified one, and along with many tsunamis that hit the Philippines.

Other technologies used were Java, XML, CSS, XSLT, Java Script, HTML, Sun UNIX, and DHTML, BoundsChecker, Source Safe, and Mozilla Firefox . The second version, I was responsible for geocoding tasks, by address, and by point of interest. I have had ESRI training. I have interfaced with Microsoft's MapPoint software.
