Dear Nurse Recruiter:

I have been a Registered Nurse for over 12 years now, and have had the privilege to work in various major hospitals in the Seattle area as a travel nurse. I began my nursing career at the University of Washington School of Nursing while working at the U.W. Medical Center as a nursing assistant. I received my initial R.N. training at U.W.M.C. on the telemetry/ cardiothoracic unit. There, I acquired a solid foundation of nursing skills that have stayed with me throughout my career. I have predominantly worked in P.C.U./telemetry/stepdown settings, and have had several assignments in Med/Surg and float pools. From my traveling experiences, I learned to quickly adapt to different hospital settings. This meant, I had to learn different computer systems, patient populations, and hospital cultures. I was given a very brief orientation with each assignment, and was expected to be prepared with the appropriate nursing knowledge and skills in order to adequately care for my patients. I have always made sure to upgrade my nursing knowledge by reading nurse refresher textbooks and taking continuing education classes. I have become a fast learner and am able to work well with all members of the medical team in order to provide the best possible nursing care. I have also had experience working in skilled nursing, managing the care of up to 25 residents, which was in many ways more challenging than hospital nursing. I believe I possess the necessary skills to be an excellent asset to your facility. I took about 2 years off from my nursing career to help take care of my own elderly grandparents, as well as being a nanny part time for two wonderful girls. Nevertheless, I used my skills as a nurse and incorporated it into their care. I also took several continuing education courses to retain my nursing knowledge including a 2 day course on cardiac rhythms, psychological first aid, and a Medical Surgical Review Course for Practice and Certification through the University of Washington. I have worked in P.C.U. in an in-hospital setting since then, and am eager to find a challenging position where I can use my skills. I look forward to hearing from you, and would be delighted and honored to work with you. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Martha Hernandez
