Executive Director

Hired as first executive director of collaboration founded in 2004 and within the first year created and implemented a development and marketing plan to expand operations from a 6’X10’ cubicle to 1,400 square feet offices; rebuilt the Steering Committee to 15 members; developed budget with $400,000 + in funding requests. Co-founded the GOAT (Getting Our Act Together) national collaborative where CFJC continues to serve as weekly facilitator. Successfully held annual convenings in Washington, D.C. after initial national gathering in Oakland. Launched statewide Mothers Taking Action community-based California state sponsored peer nutrition project.

As a principal investigator at PHI migrated the California Food and Justice Coalition from a stand-alone collaboration to the Public Health Institute where it became a sponsored/separate nonprofit organization under the revised name of Community Food and Justice Coalition.

REDEFINING PROGRESS, Oakland, California • 2007-2010

Chief Executive Officer (2008- 2010)

Appointed to institutionalize organization framework and processes and manage and oversee teams of economists. Expanded research and public awareness initiatives with diversification of funding methods. Reviewed the daily organizational and long term prospective alternative operations and ultimately oversaw the dismantling of the organization when funding sources were no longer available.

Chief Operating Officer (2008)

Directed fundraising opportunities for the national organization. Oversaw staff efforts and professional development. Worked with executive director to develop the next phase of organizational development for Redefining Progress. Created development plans and managed daily operations.

Development Director (2007-2008)

Built fundraising initiatives and developed organizational funding strategies and programming. Established the development department and led teams to increase awareness and business funding for the organization.

Grew the Environmental Justice and Climate Change initiative to a national movement.

Published the seminal report A Climate of Change: African Americans, Global Warming, and a Just Climate Policy for the United States.
