Teaching Hospital is a government Hospital in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. It has More than 1000 beds.

It is the leading Hospital in the Eastern Province and is controlled by the central Government in Colombo Sri Lanka.

The Hospital is the only teaching Hospital in the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. The Hospital is the primary clinical Teaching facility for theEastern University. Accidental and Emergency Department, Teaching Hospital has more than 60Beds.

Major trauma, the term for patients with multiple injuries, often from a road traffic accident or a significant fall, is initially handled in the Accidental and Emergency Department.

Patients arriving to the Accidental and Emergency Unit, Teaching Hospital with a myocardial infarction are likely to be triaged to the resuscitation area. The patient will receive oxygen and monitoring and have an early. Aspirin will be given and morphine or diamorphine will be given for pain. Acute exacerbations of chronic respiratory diseases, mainlyasthmaandChronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), are assessed as emergencies and treated with oxygen Therapy, Bronchodilator, SteroidsorTheophylline, have an urgent chest X-ray and arterial blood gases and are referred for intensive care if necessary.

Some patients arrive at an emergency department for a complaint of mental illness. The Accidental and emergency department conducts medical clearance rather than treating acute behavioural disorders. From the emergency department, patients with significant mental illness may be transferred to a psychiatric unit.

Accidental and Emergency Department has different equipment and different approaches than most other hospital divisions. Patients frequently arrive with unstable conditions, and so must be treated quickly. The patient may be unconscious, and information such as their medical history, allergies, and blood type may be unavailable. As Nurses are trained to work quickly and effectively even with minimal information.

About 50 Registered Nurses working and approximately300 Patients are treated every day in the Accidental and Emergency Department, Teaching Hospital, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka.

Prepare the unit and admission of the patient to Accidental and Emergency Department.

Performs triage, while considering both physical and psycho social elements. Took vital signs on a regular basis. Check Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar. Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate Format and on the appropriate forms. Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse Symptomatically.

Provides basic, bedside Nursing care.

Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients.

Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Works directly under physicians, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications.Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the Administration of medications by a Nursing Manager, Accidental and Emergency Department. Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based Upon nursing standards and protocol. Assist in various procedures like intubation, chest tube insertion, internal jugular, Ryle’s tube insertion and Foley’s catheter insertion etc. Prepare the patient for various investigations like x-ray, ECG, ultrasound, MRI etc.

Administer medication and treatments as prescribed by the physician. Collection of samples, evaluate and record the results. Provide psychological support to the patient and relatives. Maintain barrier nursing techniques and prevent cross infection. Follow medical and surgical asepsis.

Float among various clinical services, were qualified and competent. To Provide Qualified Nursing care for all Patient. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS,

Participated in “pre-congress workshop on cardiopulmonary resuscitation” workshop held on 03rd of July 2009 conducted by Batticaloa Medical Association.

Participated in “Comprehensive Rehabilitation Management of Person with Disabilities” workshop held on 24th - 26th of August 2009 conducted by College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka and International Conference of SAARC Surgical Care Society. Participated in “Health personnel in treating, controlling and in prevention of COVID-19” conducted by Ministery of Health Sri Lanka.
