ENP-C). During my tenure as an Emergency Department Clinical Educator (2009-2018), I was responsible for maintaining HazMat and WMD equipment (inventory and readiness) and acted in the capacity of train the trainer for both HazMat and START Triage classes. I am comfortable in working in austere conditions and have considerable experience as a team member and Team Leader during numerous Code Purple events in the Emergency Department (multiple casualties, severe patient surge events, staffing & equipment shortages, loss of power/water and local essential services). Team Leader (post-event Charge Nurse), for Hurricanes Charley (2004), Ivan (2004), Wilma (2005) & Irma (2017), as well as for several non-hurricane related events that affected essential services. Member of the Emergency Preparedness Leadership and worked in conjunction with Local EMS/LE, County and State leaders for mass casualty drills and real events. I have worked in a number of Emergency Departments and critical care areas (ICU, CCU) over my 42 years in practice (including Level I Trauma). I am comfortable working as an APRN in the Emergency Department (11 years as APRN) and work closely with my nurse colleagues, physicians, Paramedics and EMTs. I am comfortable with identification of simple and complex patient disease states and am able to order/interpret the appropriate labs, imaging and other diagnostic studies and prescribe the appropriate medications or interventions and follow-up on my plan of care. I am comfortable with EKG and some Radiograph interpretation and am able to readily identify those patients who require immediate care and am able to initiate basic & advanced life support (BLS, ACLS, ASLS, PALS) Proficient at IV access: peripheral, EJ, IO and phlebotomy/arterial punctures (and interpretation of ABG/Labs). I am proficient at the medical management of Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma, Acute Allergic Reactions, Dehydration, Lacerations (proficient at suturing and wound care), Chest pain, AMI, Abdominal issues, Urinary complaints (proficient at Foley and Gastric tube placement and management) and a wide range of patient complaints. I pride myself on staying current and up to date on my CEUs (recently completed 100 CEUs for my CEN re-certification) and have been a Mentor to many APRN students. I am comfortable with treating underserved and vulnerable patients in a caring and non-judgemental manner, through my ED, Acute Detox and Rehabilitation experience. I feel that with my extensive and broad-based experience and my motivation to care for patients (and continually improve), I would be an excellent PRN addition to your team.
