I currently am employed full time for State of Maine DHHS as a mental health worker 3. I serve the OADS department completing crisis work. Our office at DHHS takes crisis calls and serves 2200 clients per our district. There are many homes we have for people to use as transitional housing until they find a more permanent placement. We deal with many different situations of disabled adults.

I was hired as of 12/22/2015 and have been there since. I have CPR, First Aide, Blood born pathogens, CDS, DSP, and CRMA 40 hour certificates that are all current. I care for adults who have physical and cognetive disabilities. I administer medications and help with personal care. Any task they need done to be able to live independently is what I do. I work full time right now. You must always be aware of your surroundings and watch the clients. You must know how to read body language as well as regular language. We clean apartments sometimes, help with laundry, assisting with walks around the town, running errands with them, and grocery shopping. We are also responsible for reporting abuse or neglect to DHHS and keeping records of how the day went.

I am a full time employee who is hired for DSP work. I am currently making $15.50 and hour. I work with young boys from the ages of 12-21 who need a psychiatric and physical level of care. It is probably the hardest job I have had in my 17 years of work experience. There is a high level of danger in the job I do. These children are needing to be in the residential program for a transition to go home.

I also helped my elderly boss with ground maintenence.

I had to serve customers, take orders, help correct mistakes made on orders, and I had to help customers that were angry leave happy. I worked with beak trimmers who came every 2 months to trim the new birds' beaks. They also vaccinated the birds. I helped do morning counts of the birds as some would pass in the night. I cleaned up the hallways, unclogged the silos when the feed lines would get stuck, do night checks on the birds to make sure they didn't overheat, and cleaned under the silos. I also learned how to run a big bucket loader. I also was in charge of maintaining the property. Lawn mowing, weed whacking and keeping the 5 barns clean. I was also in charge of making sure the feed lines remained open and that the water lines were clean and free of debris at all times so the birds had fresh water. I learned to withstand very hot temperatures as the baby birds required temperatures of 120 degrees at head level to survive.

I started as host and proved I was efficient and good at the job. I got moved up to waitress and became one of the top waitresses who worked there. Every customer left very happy and had good reports for my manager. I worked well as a team member and helped the other staff members. I was very good at multi-tasking with very little mistakes. I used the POS system daily to put in customers orders and print their checks. I prepped food in the back on slow times. I also rolled the silverware at shift end. I ran the dishwasher as well. I would help other staff wait and bus their tables on top of making sure my tables were satisfied. I would go in early to set up the tables and at night on shift end I would clean the restaraunt. I would show up each day prepared and excited to start a new day. Duties were to cut the tomatoes and stack and count them and log it into a quota system. I exceeded my amount of the rows assigned to me mid day and would go help others. I always stayed for overtime when it was offered to me. I helped in the pack house where the tomatoes were selected to go to the stores, palletized and sealed. I hung bug cards to deter the bugs from the plants when they would find a way to get into the greenhouse. Temperatures were very hot and sticky. I liked the heat. I also helped with crop care. The cleaning up of parts of plants and keeping little ground pests out of the greenhouse.
