Self-Assessment

I now understand my obligations better because of my PMHNP role. To meet that obligation, I must improve my skills and put more effort into my ongoing study to raise the professional standards of NPs. I must work with other health professionals to provide mental healthcare services throughout the lifespan to practice in various settings as an interdependent part of the healthcare team. I can do screening history and physical examinations and advanced health assessments to provide initial physical diagnoses and recommend patients for primary care as necessary. Additionally, I can use my clinical expertise and advanced knowledge to diagnose and treat psychiatric-mental health conditions. This includes prescribing psychotropic medications and individual, group, and family psychotherapy, crisis intervention, case management, and consultation.

The PMHNP degree equipped me to bridge the gap between physical and mental health care by preparing me to provide clients with holistic treatment. Understanding the role of the NP and the scope of their practice is essential to delivering high-quality care and treating each patient individually. My understanding of and reflection on the NP's duties to the patient, the hospital staff, and the organization was enhanced by the clinical experience. Clinical skills evaluation form results show that I can generally identify the signs and symptoms of mental disease across the lifetime. I'm also good at differentiating pathophysiological illnesses from psychopathological ones. I have a reasonable degree of trust in my ability to perform and interpret a complete physical and history. The ability to perform and evaluate a functional evaluation is another skill I am confident in. Establishing therapeutic relationships with clients and coworkers requires preserving professional boundaries. I am at ease working with interdisciplinary teams to enhance clinical practice in mental health settings.
