HEAD MENTOR
University of the Western Cape
Feb 2018 - Nov 2019
Peer Mentoring Programme
As a Mentor I was responsible for the well-being and academic excellence of six first year students, ensuring that they were coping; assisting them with adjustment to university; equipping them with time management, stress management, goal setting and similar tools so that they could perform to the best of their capabilities irrespective of the transition.
I gained significant experience with regards to dealing with diversity and being able to work well with different types of people, which entails the ability to communicate effectively, cooperate, and demonstrate an acceptance of the values, beliefs and opinions of others.
At the end of the 2018 academic year, I was awarded the ‘Certificate for Recognition for Extra-Ordinary Services Rendered’ which is only awarded to the top 10 performing students in the programme. I returned yet again in the year 2019 as a Head/Senior Mentor and my duties were to ensure that mentoring took place between Mentors and Mentees.
