Position: Project Manager, Contracted through Saxon Global to Dominion Energy as Capital Project Lead for one of the United States largest Power Producers at their Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center.

I had complete oversite of all contractor trades consisting of civil, steel erectors, boilermakers, pipefitters, electricians, and operating engineers performing various power plant capital project upgrades consisting of underground HDPE pipeline installation on some of the steepest rocky terrain in the state of Virginia (civil), upgrades to baghouses new inlet ducting, turning vanes with an abrasion resistant tile overlay, and stainless-steel air damper replacements.

Position: Site Decommissioning Project Manager; Contracted through Aerotek to Kennametal who is one of the world’s largest premier machine tool manufacturers who are moving to a newer larger facility.

I had complete management oversite of contractor trades consisting of millwrights, electricians, pipefitters, and riggers removing the many types of precision, proprietary equipment used in the manufacturing of carbide machine tooling and inserts that are used by companies in the aerospace, aviation and general machining industries located world-wide.

Reviewed engineered lift plans and costs with the contractors as well as safety precautions taken while removing equipment in a working plant while production continued.

Reported daily schedule updates and participated in weekly conference calls with the project director, engineers, contractors, and plant personnel involved with this time constrained project that had a scheduled completion date of March 2022.

06/2017 to 04/2019 Cleaver Brooks (Boiler Manufacturing & Installation) Lincoln, NE

Position: Installation Support Manager for the largest leading small boiler manufacturer.

Managed all company field installations including mechanical, civil, electrical, controls, fiber-optic cabling, site QC, and vendor surveillance. Participated in warranty meetings, reviews of drawings, engineering, negotiations, project specifications. and employee reviews.

Included was my development of all field required installation documentation, developed contingency plans, procedures and schedules required for installations / erections of Cleaver Brooks manufactured water tube boilers and heat recovery steam generators (HRSG’s) that are manufactured in the Lincoln, Nebraska facility. I reviewed boiler design drawings for installations and BOP equipment including, control panels, electrical wiring, pumps, steam, natural & hydrogen gas, piping, an FD fan that was driven both electrically and by a steam turbine that was supplied. I interfaced with the end user’s civil, mechanical & electrical engineers that were their third-party engineering firms.

Equipment consisted of the largest package boiler ever built at the Lincoln facility and its feedwater system, controls, dual Fuel burner and pollution elimination equipment installed at the Nova Chemicals Plant in Corunna, Ontario Canada. This installation was executed utilizing Canadian Union Craft consisting of boiler makers, pipe fitters, civil contractors, mill wrights, electricians, and sub-contractors.

06/2016 to 05/2017 Randstad Engineering Amarillo, TX

Position: Consulting Contracted Construction Supervisor; Contracted through Randstad Engineering to Xcel Energy the seventh largest utility in the US, I supervised capital projects, consisting of retro fits, and upgrades at all the plants within a 260-mile radius of the Amarillo Texas office.

Position: Site Project Manager, I was contracted for the erection of the new Coffeyville city power plant consisting of natural gas NG fueled engine driven generators including balance of plant (BOP) support equipment that consisted of the fire suppression system, engine lube oil, NG (Natural Gas) and urea, air and water piping, water tank erection, massive radiator cooling tower the SCR, and related pollution reduction equipment, installation of electrical from the generators to the power distribution transformant and cabling out to the grid, all equipment foundations, breaching, pumps, plant electrical, instrumentation, fiber-optic cabling and electrical, instrumentation, including the NG fuel filtering system and underground piping required for operation of the new power plant. Position: Site Project Manager, with oversite of all field piping fabrication and installations consisting of process, steam & condensate, boiler fuel, mechanical process pumps and electrical at a state-of-the-art biodiesel / ethanol facility located in Beatrice, Nebraska. I oversaw direct and indirect employees while managing the day-to-day activities and requirements including attending meetings, generating reports, and updating the schedule as required to successfully complete our part of the project on time and within budget. 05/2015 to 12/2015 Clyde Bergmann Power Generation Ghent, KY

Position: Consulting Manufacturer’s Site Manager for one of the industry’s leading fabric filter manufactures.

As the site point of contact on this large capital project I resolved all mechanical, air piping, electrical, and electrical, fiber-optic control cabling issues that the emissions reduction installation contractor encountered while erecting a large cellular double stacked fabric filter (Bag House) including a PAC (Powder Activated Charcoal) system, the inlet and outlet ducting, piping, electrical and controls cabling at the Gent, KY power generating station.

Activities consisted of change order and development of contingency plans, approvals, RFI responds, inspections of the erection, QC, vendor surveillance, and inspection of equipment on arrival, reporting of milestones met and any engineering issues to the home office and direct interfacing with the contractors, engineers. and plant staff.

12/2014 to 03/2015 Target CW Bay City, TX

Position: Consulting Contracted Site Quality Control Manager; I was contracted through Target CW to Gray Construction, a medium size construction company. I had Q. C. oversight of five Subcontractors, vendor surveillance, mechanical, electrical, and civil at the Tenaris Bay City, TX construction site which when completed will be one of the largest tube manufacturing facilities in the United States until the corporate QC person arrived on site.

My position included attending all construction and quality review meetings, interpretations of the contracts as well as subcontractor’s quality control programs and attending audits administered by the owners Q. C. team to get the project back on schedule. Interfaced with the Tenaris Q. C. team daily as well as subcontractor’s during the administration of the various Q. C. Codes, standards, and programs that civil, mechanical, electrical, civil contractors were utilizing including 3rd. party Testing consisting of proctor, soil compaction, mechanical Joint, welded CS, SS, and miles of fused HDPE pipe & connections under ASME B31 codes, and electrical continuity of electrical connections insuring all were completed following contractual requirements that governed the construction project which including several miles of underground natural gas, potable water and fire suppression piping installed by horizontal line boring and open trench excavations for installation of fire hydrants, pumps. and water storage tanks.

Position: Consulting Construction Site Manager, contracted through ProEnergy to PacifiCorp at their Blundell Geothermal Power Plant capital project upgrade consisting of civil, mechanical, electrical, fiber-optic control installations by mechanical, electrical, and civil contractors, included was the integration of 2 new geothermal wells, concrete foundations, a large brine pump, air, steam & brine separator column, chemical injection tank, backup generator, propane fuel tank and MCC building. Inspection of excavations, for above and below ground piping, footings, 2 large fabric lined ponds, soil sampling to establish soil compaction and proctor testing of samples, concrete strength testing and placement per the American Concrete Institute / American Petroleum Institute (ACI / API) and ASME code requirements, QC, vendor & environmental surveillance and included was formulation of concrete mixes as specified by engineering and over 7 miles of steam, condensate & brine piping above and below ground that included the tie in to the existing power plant main steam line, all electrical, controls, commissioning and project closeout.

11/2013 to 03/2014 TransGlobal Energy Services Sergeant Bluff, IA

Position: Consulting Mechanical Construction Coordinator, contracted through TransGlobal Energy Services to CF Industries executing the largest project to be undertaken in the state of Iowa. As oversite of all foundations, mechanical, millwrights and civil contractor’s work that includes excavating, soils testing for remediation that may be required, auger cast piling installations and testing procedures. Concrete form setting for foundations installed ensured contractors followed the American Concrete Institute / American Petroleum Institute (ACI / API) codes / standards requirements including formulation of the concrete mixes as specified by engineering. My other activities Included developing operating strategies, plans, or procedures management of electrical, mechanical, civil, heavy rigging, steel erection, pump setting and refractory and safety contractors at the construction site that will be the largest fertilizer manufacturing facility in the United States.

Position: Consulting Mechanical & Electrical Night Shift Manager, contracted through the Professional Employment Group at the construction site of the largest potato processing plant under one roof, ever constructed in the United States to help get the project back on schedule.

Being the sole point of contact for all night shift contractors, as a Representative / Technical Advisor to the customer’s engineering firm to get the piping associated with the project back on schedule. I managed the installation of 3 Cleaver Brooks boilers, and part of approximately 175 miles of pipe installations consisting of process, steam, condensate (from and to the boilers), air, wash water, fire Suppression and quality control of all Piping Installations, Vessel Installations, soil compaction testing, placement of thousands of yards of concrete that made up the parking areas and site roads, freezer floor, pulling of electrical cables / wire and fiber-optic cabling for plant controls, miles of belt conveyor installations and night and day shift progress reporting.

06/2011 to 03/2013 Plant Services, Inc. Blair, NE

Position: Consulting Heavy Industrial Construction Project Manager, contracted through Plant Services, Inc. to NatureWorks, LLC at the world’s largest Cargill Company’s facility.

I had overall construction project management consisting of a large addition to the existing plant including, contractor and engineering contract management, administration, site safety, heavy lift rigging, mechanical, electrical, fiber-optic controls, civil, QC and remediation of polluted soils that caused histoplasmosis within the construction area which affected workers during a previous project at the plant. C. per ASME, API, ACI and NBIC codes, C O (Change Order) approval, project design reviews, RFI (Request for Information) distribution, construction cost tracking, construction office activities, equipment commissioning, safety, environmental surveillance, and other activities required for execution of the plant expansion for increasing output and manufacturing of additional product and biproducts of the plastic pellet and chemical manufacturing process & upgrades at one of the largest bio-refineries in the nation.

Included was the installation of pilings, Foundations, 10 miles of process, hot oil, steam & condensate piping inside and out of the buildings, the setting of 3ea. 2-section vertical pressure vessels and separation column’s one weighing over 200 tons), a liquid terminal truck load out for lactide, 30 pumps and erection of 2 steam heated stainless-steel storage tanks that will hold 2,000,000 tons of liquid lactide, integration of the electrical system controls and cooling tower upgrades. Projects were completed without a lost time recordable injury.

2/2011 to 03/2011 ESG Monticello, MN

Position: Consulting Heavy Industrial Construction Manager, contracted through ESG International to Xcel Energy at their Monticello Nuclear Power Plant located in Monticello, MN was given over site of all mechanical, electrical including the replacing of the power distribution transformer, Controls, and civil union contractors accomplishing the capital projects associated with the plant EPU upgrades including fire water, steam, condensate piping, QC of piping installations, vendor surveillance and contractor safety that was required for preforming the work to increase the plant MW output and major upgrades to the plants fire suppression system piping, replaced the reactor suppression tank bottom along with replacement of multiple steam pipe snubbers.

All was accomplished with zero injuries and completed on time.

09/2010 to 10/2010 Power & Industrial Consulting Warrenville, IL

Position: Consulting Heavy Industrial Construction Manager, I was contracted through Power & Industrial Consulting. I had management of all construction activities and supervision of 150 mechanical, electrical, controls craft subcontractors on a pollution reduction project that was executed on time & within budget that consisted of the installation of twenty-eight new low NOx burners for NOx & Co (Emission reduction) which were physically the largest ever built and installed on a fossil fueled boiler. Other items replaced included revamped coal piping plus two sets of secondary air duct turning vanes, over fire air injection registers, electrical and DCS, fiber-optic control upgrades that make up a state of art over fire air (OFA) injection system including startup mechanical upgrades, and equipment retrofits. Included was commissioning of the newly installed equipment on a Foster Wheeler 875 MW coal fired utility boiler at the Omaha Public Power District Nebraska City’s Unit-1. Project had zero Injuries. 11/2009 to 08/2010 TransGlobal Energy Services Halton Hills, Ontario Canada

Position: TCA (Technical Consulting Construction / Commissioning Advisor) Contracted through TransGlobal Energy Services to Alstom Power at the construction site of a new 650 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant. As the Technical Advisor to the primary erection and commissioning contractors completing the construction of this new facility. Included was working with CO’s (Change Orders) preparation of financial documents, reports, budgets. and RFI’s (Requests for Information) and contract administrators. I advised on completion of the construction, Piping, Hydrostatic Testing, and Commissioning (including the generation of the HRSG Commissioning Procedure) and worked through startup of the two (2) Alstom supplied HRSG’s (Heat Recovery Steam Generators). Interfaced with the general contractor and their Canadian union sub-contractors.

I was able to get the project that was behind schedule when I arrived, back on a new schedule and within budget, making it a success for all stakeholders involved.

10/2009 to 11/2009 Foot Bridge Staffing Decatur, IL

Position: Power / Process Piping Construction Consultant, contracted through FootBridge Staffing to ADM at their Decatur, IL facility where a new hydrogen and glycol production line was under construction. This project included the setting up of the Hydrogen reactor, installation of hydrogen and glycol piping for the hydrogen separation process. I analyzed the contractor’s production, ways & means, including safety and the API, MFPA, ASME Q.C., vendor surveillance code issues.

By revising the pipe spool fabrication and erection process’s I was able to safely accelerate the work and minimize the amount of delay in meeting the projected completion date, also worked with the scheduler creating a workable realistic project schedule for all union and open shop contractors to follow (Not just Pipe fitters) accelerating the equipment installations.

Position: Consulting Non-Degreed Mechanical Engineer; I was given the task of reviewing the engineered balance of plant (BOP) piping consisting of welded and fused HDPE to be installed at the Basin Electric Dry Forks Power Generation Station in Gillette, WY.

Was brought in to accelerate the project placing me in charge of all work associated with the BOP piping including oversite of the piping drafting and design team, commissioning, and project closeout. I initiated a process that was lacking in drafting procedures to allow the project to be completed on time, safely with zero injuries and within budget.

12/2008 to 05/2009 HKA Staffing Ashland, VA

Position: Consulting Project Manager / Owner’s Representative; I was Contracted through HKA NextEra Energy (Formally Known as FPLE) and oversaw replacing the Doswell, Unit – 502 HP Evaporator section of the HRSG on their combined cycle power plant at the NextEra Energy (Formally known as Florida Power & Light Energy) power plant.

Having complete contract management responsibility of the project from generation of RFQ’s, RFI’s, Change Order, reviewing and or approving, contractor selection, contract administration, cost, QC, vendor & environmental surveillance, and safety through project close out. The project and all extra work outside of the contractor’s base contract was completed with the existing crew, on time and within the budget including added extra work that was associated with Units – 501, 601 and 602. The project and extra work were completed with zero injuries.

01/2008 to 09/2008 Certified Power Systems, Inc. Middleboro, MA

Position: Senior Consulting Project and Contract Manager for CPS Construction Company I took over management of a project in the Virgin Islands on St. Thomas for the complete rebuild of a fossil fueled combined cycle heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and the extra work outside of the base contract work that was awarded, consisting of foundation repairs, replacing the HRSG drain vales and piping, installation of a mew deairator and condensate storage tank on Unit 3 that powers and supplies desalinated water for the entire island.

Through my experience of scheduling and contract management I successfully accomplished all base contracts within budget and extra work within the outage schedule with the original crew size, and within budget.

At the Brayton Pt. Power Plant, a coal fired, fossil fueled power plant where CPS was a sub-contractor to the general contractor. I was employed to take over management of the contract as the Senior Project Manager.

The base contract consisted of foundation installations, piping installations for two (2) Wheelabrator/Siemens wet flue gas desulphurization (WFGD’s) and 2 pulse jet fabric filters (baghouses) for emission reductions being installed on two (2) Combustion Engineering T-Fired boilers at this Dominion Energy power plant.

Upon my review of the contract, budget, schedule, and status of the project, I implemented means and ways to accelerate the project that consisted of pipe fabrication, modification and installation of all piping systems including fiberglass reinforced plastic/polyester (FRP) pipe and associated fittings, welded carbon, stainless-steel and fused HDPE piping systems, all done with union craft.

Extra work consisted of constructing a liquid spent lime and dry ash load out its foundations and the associated piping and conveying systems for ash removal on two (2) new fabric filters (Baghouses) installations along with commissioning of all the systems blowers, motors, pumps, and ball mills.

The project was behind schedule when I arrived on site due to extra work outside of the base contract. Responsibilities included contract management, taking over the budget, schedule, develop contingency plans and requests for information (RFI’s), change order execution, attending meetings, tracking progress and schedule updating, interfacing with engineering, plant management, and other site contractors in this union environment.

With my experience and heavy construction and piping knowledge I was able to minimize the lost time due to prior poor project management and engineering of the project. With drawings in hand, I walked the project with the general superintendent to better understand the issues. I revise the schedule, minimized the installation issues created by the extra work and still successfully complete all base contract and extra work while maintaining the existing crew size, and zero lost time injuries plus boosting the company’s overall revenue with extras of $5.5M for the 2008 year. (Total Value of this project: $9.5 M including all extras)
