Processing Supervisor

Responsible for the safety and performance of 35 union employees.

Played major role in the cultural transition to a lean manufacturing environment in 2009 that netted a cost savings of over $12 Million.

Led several cost savings initiatives that directly led to a cost savings, via scrap-reduction, of $2.2 million.

Currently working on several Autonomous Maintenance projects that have been designed to increase line efficiencies by "Process Stabilization," standardizing the operational ranges of the equipment for optimal process performance.

Responsible for the first shift processing operations for the leading cereal manufacturer, a multi-billion-dollar Fortune 500 company.

Led several continuous improvement teams on a charter projects to cut costs of the Corn/Frosted flake lines. Was able to identify and implement changes to these processes that have saved over $4M since 6/02.

Warehouse Lead Supervisor

Responsible for the development of six salaried and 30 hourly employees.

Major responsibilities include the hiring and developing of Warehouse Associates; designing a training program with the ultimate goal of developing a highly motivated and flexible workforce; maintaining inventory accuracy; the development and implementation of measurement tools to validate the efficiencies of material movements, receiving and shipping of raw materials and finished goods; budget planning and review with Materials Manager; assisting Manufacturing in reaching sales goals; continually finding ways to better serve our external and internal customers.

Led a team of production associates to achieve quantifiable improvements in Total Production Cycle Time, Inventory Turns, First Pass Yields, Assembly Errors, Scrap Reduction, Safety Performance, Linearity, and On-Time Shipments.

Was major driving force that led to the 267% growth of the second shift in order to meet sales projections. This included developing a needs assessment model, personally interviewing potential hourly associates, and training and cross-training new hires in the areas that were most beneficial in achieving and surpassing our production goals.

Assisted in the improvement of unit quality to record efficiencies. This was done by reducing assembly errors and improving First Pass Yields with basically a group of hourly associates whose average seniority was approximately six months.

1996-1998

Shift Resource Leader

Managed six salaried and 50 union employees.

Managed the logistics and administration of supplies and people for the crew’s operation as required to meet the Key Performance Indicators of employee safety, food safety, productivity and materials waste.

Performed safety incident investigations, participated in the development of appropriate corrective actions and through follow up, ensured timely implementation.

Monitored the performance of systems and employees to ensure that quality and food safety goals are achieved.

Aggressively pursued business objectives making calculated decisions while paying careful attention to details and the rules and procedures governing our processes.

Accomplishments:

Organized and led a team of systems experts to challenge and exceed existing standards for our cleaning and sterilizing processes. This team; consisting of engineers, QC supervisors, hourly machine operators and outside technical experts, devised an action plan that will significantly reduce machine downtime and cleaning chemical usage at our aseptic facility.

Played key role in the transition from a traditional union work force to a team-based work environment.

Was responsible for all CBT training of every hourly and salaried employee on my shift.

Played key role in the development and implementation of Behavioral Safety Audits and Planned Job Observations in order to continuously monitor and correct safety/job related performance.

After a major “downsizing” in October 1997, given responsibility of reducing turnover times and increasing run times on all of the production lines. Resulted in a decrease in turnaround time and an increase in production of more than 30%.

NABISCO BRANDS, INC., Fair Lawn, NJ

1995 - 1996

Point Person-Ritz Cracker Line

Point person for the successful “Ritz” product line.

Managed three supervisors and 45 union employees.

Multi-departmental managing of the Ritz line from raw materials through mixing, baking, packaging and distribution.

Duties also included presenting performance reports to plant manager and staff at monthly business review meetings, supervising and coaching two packaging supervisors, and creating and maintaining a proactive maintenance schedule.

Accomplishments:

Devised and instituted new P.M. schedule that significantly reduced major downtime and maintenance costs.

Became the leader of the “Ritz Core Team.” Recruited members from various departments, both salaried

and hourly, in order to optimize line performance.

Returned line to profitability after an extended down period. Line exceeded profit projections while under my direction. Incorporated safety meetings with monthly mini financial review to hourly employees to inform and involve them in the business.

Processor/Production Supervisor 1993-1996

Oversaw the Fat Free Fig Newton process from mixing through baking, through packaging to distribution. Responsible for adjustments to formulas, oven temperatures, belt speeds via PLC controls that incorporated the most recent SPC technology.

Supervised a multi-departmental work force of 55+ union employees. Trained hourly and salaried personnel on high tech equipment, PLC’s; prepared job descriptions for hourly positions.

Responsible for financial reporting of all factors affecting productivity on a biweekly basis: cost of down-time; raw material usage.

Accomplishments:

One of three supervisors chosen to head Nabisco Brand’s start-up of Fat Free Fig Newtons, the fiscally aggressive project ever attempted by Nabisco (1994): Line was financially solvent within six months.

Achieved Merit Award for my performance as well as promotion from Production Supervisor to Processor.

Environmental Supervisor 1987-1993

Supervised union work force of 50 employees responsible for maintaining the sanitary level of flour equipment, liquid ingredient storage tanks, and all food contact surfaces of the bakery.

Proficient in wet/dry cleaning, CIP systems, cryogenic cleaning as well as various sanitizing procedures.

Assisted the Quality Control Department in product testing trials for the successful “Teddy Grahams” product.

Accomplishments:

Instrumental in reducing departmental work force from 60 to 46 employees while increasing productivity 18% resulting in a saving of over $42K in labor costs. Since being assigned the responsibility of jobs completed on a monthly basis in 1989, the percentage completed percentage increased approximately 27%.

Initiated inventory control program for supplies that resulted in a saving of $42K in 1989.
