-As a full-time CNA, I worked three twelve hour shifts a week, with some overtime. Shifts began with the “change of shift report” for Nurses and CNA’s to gather information from the previous shift, about occurrences and changes, including some personal patient history if needed at that time and plan my day.

•Open/update charts, dry erase boards; collect patient vitals with a warm, positive attitude while maintaining compassion and empathy. Help patients prepare for their meals with a hand wash, body position, bed position and table position, prior to delivering their meals to them.

• Assist with ADL’s (all daily living tasks), ensuring the patients suite is stocked, clean/tidy. Provide/assist with oral care, skincare, checking quality of skin, bathing, toileting needs, and assisting with ROM (range of motion) body mechanics.

•Observe and report I&O (intake and output- monitoring beverage/meal/snack intake), including physical and mental symptoms/conditions (pain, needs, and wants for comfort); obtain information (informally interview) patient and/or their DPOA/caregiver for history/signs/symptoms, etc.

• Preparing for new admits with inpatient procedures and outpatient procedures when they leave our facility, in addition to providing post-mortem care.

•Teaching personal care steps to be taken/utilized at home, for comfort and easier quality of life; instruction on DME’s (durable medical equipment), importance of range of motion and repositioning; wound care.
