Patricia worked as Program Manager for the Agricultural Development Division
(ADD) in the Southern districts of Malawi called Blantyre ADD, one of the ecological zones in the Ministry of Agriculture. As Programme Manager, Patricia presided over seven districts with a fleet of more than 100 professional agricultural officers and 857412 farm farming households engaged in various fields and practices of agriculture including Livestock Production, Field crops, Horticultural, Extension services and Soil Conservation amongst others. Patricia has a doctoral degree in Animal Science focusing on climate change and greenhouse gases obtained from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, she is a holder of a Master’s of science degree in Animal Studies obtained from the University of Queensland in Australia and a holder of Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science obtained from the University of Malawi. In her long experience of more than 3 decades working as a senior public servant and before her promotion to the post of Program Manager from 2019 to 2022 Patricia worked as a National Research Coordinator for Livestock and Pastures in the Department of Agricultural Research Services (DARS) in the Ministry of Agriculture. Further from November 2015 to January 2019, Patricia worked as the Deputy Director of Animal Health and Livestock Development (in the Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development (DAHLD) in Malawi under the Ministry of Agriculture. In this position, she was head of the Animal Production and Livestock Extension in the country and the first woman to attain that position in the livestock sector. From 2014 April to November 2015 Patricia worked as National Dairy Coordinator in the Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development overseeing and directing Dairy Management and Production, Extension and Marketing components of the dairy value chain. From 2007 Patricia worked as Chief Animal Health and Livestock Development Officer in Blantyre Agricultural Development Division, overseeing all activities of Livestock Management through mentorship and guidance of livestock field staff. In June 2014 Patricia underwent a Gender Mainstreaming training course administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and the UN Women of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. Patricia has championed the formation of stakeholder platforms for dairy, beef, Poultry and small stock production in pursuit of achieving the set goals. Patricia can do resource mobilization and in her tenure as head of production, she mobilized resources for revamping the government farms and hatcheries to build the national herd, and national flock and sustain stock productivity through breeding selection and proper feeding backed by modern techniques of feeding housing and disease control. Patricia has been key and instrumental in steering a successful dairy industry in the southern milk shed area from the 90s to 2014, She has been key and instrumental in the design of a winning proposal for the construction of Pig Market platforms in the four regions of the country under Research into Use from 2010 to 2012’. Patricia was the Principal Investigator for the Women Dairy goat project in Thyolo District, T/A Nchilamwera, Australian Grant August 2015. Patricia was the Investigator and Team member of the Capacity Building and Management of Climate Change (CABMACC) Project at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources from 2014 to 2017, Patricia was the Team Leader for a winning proposal with AU IBAR for National Agenda for Animal Genetic Resource Conservation (NAGREC) in 2017, Patricia was the Team Leader of the winning Proposal with AU IBAR on Assessment of Pollinator Genetic Resources in Malawi (APGREM) 2019. Patricia is the Interim Chairperson of the Malawian Women in Animal Resources Farming and Agribusiness Network (MAWARFA_N)
SUMMARY OF ACHIEVEMENTS
Presided over and competently guided the review of the National Livestock Policy and strategic plan undertaken by the local and international consultants. Managing of an active and well-coordinated livestock extension delivery system in the ADDs and Districts to the EPAs within the available resources allocated under my charge.
Formation of stakeholder platforms for dairy, beef and small stock production in pursuit of achieving the set goals.
Resource mobilization and revamping of government farms to build the national herd and sustain stock productivity through breeding selection and proper feeding backed by formulation of rations for the poultry, dairy and piggery units of these farms.
