Re: Patricia Parten

To whom it may concern:

I write to offer my recommendation for Partricia Parten. I understand that she is presently seeking a position with a legal office. With complete candor, I whole-heartedly recommend Patricia as an eager, capable candidate who, I believe, will have great potential at any law firm or legal office.

I met Patricia as a student in my Torts and Personal Injury class in the paralegal program at El Centro College here in Dallas. I have worked primarily as a practicing attorney for over two decades, but for the last few years I have found a great joy teaching the law to students as an adjunct professor in our Center for Law & Public Service. Ms. Parten is exactly the kind of student who has made my teaching work so rewarding. I found Patricia to be not only capable, but also inquisitive and genuinely interested in the law. She was the kind of student who did not like to leave any question unanswered. She put the work in and always came to class well prepared. To put it plainly, she just always got the job done. Patricia had insightful questions for just about every class, but more importantly, she had always done the work ahead of time, read the materials and the cases, and tried to answer the questions herself first. I never “gave” Patricia any grade that she did not earn, and she was never satisfied with anything below an “A.” She certainly received a few grades lower than an “A” on some assignments, but she always used those opportunities to reexamine the work to learn what she had gotten wrong. I was proud to give her the “A” she earned in my Torts class. In my twenty plus years of practice, the number one trait I have found to indicate whether an assistant or a paralegal or a young associate will ultimately be successful and, more importantly to me, be an asset to my practice has been whether or not they have an eagerness to learn more, to get better every time, and to continue to strive for perfection in their work. I found Patricia to be that type of student. It was clear from her time in class that Patricia has prior experience with the law. I believe this is born out by her resume. As far as her communications skills, I can tell you Re: Patricia Parten

that she related well and professionally both with me and with her fellow students, and so I believe she would integrate quickly into any new firm setting. Her bilingual qualifications are obviously an asset to any firm, especially here in Texas. And she not only easily speaks and understands the spoken word, but she has real past experience interpreting textual and legal materials to and from Spanish. I often find that bilingual candidates do not possess both of those skills.

It would be a pleasure to speak with you about Ms. Parten. If you have any questions or if I can provide you with any additional information to aid you in your consideration of her application, then please feel free to contact me at any time. Otherwise, I wish you and Patricia the best of luck in your search.
