Career Summary /work experience

December 2021 to Date.

Nutrition Educator, Abbott Nutrition International.

Support in the implementation of maternal infant and young child feeding program in Nairobi County.

Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), Nutrition Officer – International Rescue Committee (IRC), Dadaab, Garissa County. Achievements.

Represented IRC in donor meeting and in Nutrition technical working groups with other health stakeholders in Dadaab.

Served as a member of the MIYCN (Mother infant and young child Nutrition) technical working group. I actively participated in developing messages that can easily be understood by the public so as to improve the health and nutrition of children under 5 years and mothers.

Provided technical support. During the development of the training packages for MIYCN, I actively contributed my knowledge and skills e.g. inclusion of videos in the training rather than pictures only.

In the routine development of the key MIYCN messages and posters, I helped to come up with simple messages that were easily understood while still maintaining the original scientific meaning.

During the review of the counseling cards, in the technical working group I actively contributed in coming up with pictures and messages that were relevant to the local context compared. This was in view of increasing the uptake of the program and ownership.

Ensuring quality Implementation of MIYCN program through conducting trainings for health and nutrition workers, facilitating the formation of MIYCN Support groups and on-job training of the counselors.

I actively participated as a facilitator during the roll out of the new MIYCN guidelines for Kenya by training various cadres including health and nutrition workers and Mother Support group.

Ensured success of the nutrition program by strengthening the linkage mechanism through monthly mass MUAC (Mid Upper Arm Circumference), taking a lead role in setting up of central kitchen gardens for the mother support groups, referrals and linkages of all mothers to support groups.

I took a lead role in community engagement and involvement by conducting community dialogues and family bazaars and community action days.

I participated in developing a resource centers which also served as child friendly space in various health posts in Hagadera.

I ensured weekly, monthly and quarterly reports in line with the needs of IRC and the donors who funded the nutrition program.
