Hired as an electrical engineer to drive field quality issues on Hospira injection pumps (Plum A+, GemStar) using analytic skills and data driven decisions while following Hospira’s risk based design controls. In addition, I:
Designed the CE3 validation test plan and executed the test suite on the prototype boards. Failures were root caused and corrected in subsequent builds.
Authored a white paper on worst case current draw in Plum A+ to demonstrate the fuses were underrated and causing the nuisance fuse blow complaints in the field data.
Drove the completion of a functional level risk based FMECA for the Plum A+. Hospria risk process was followed to complete the FMECA.
Authored the Stress Analysis Worksheet for the CE3 (Communication Engine) card.
Created functional level risk based dFMEA and electrical requirements document for the Hospira PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesic) Pump. Supported the verification and validation team who needed help designing test cases and analyzing test results.

Starting with process data from a human/data interaction process, identified the variation that lead to excessive cycle time, customer defects and corrected the weaknesses. The new process was deployed and measured the effectiveness of the improvements. Control charts at critical process points determined the stability of the work flow. Reaction plans were created when out of control criteria are met. This was a high performance development process for our android products. The new process reduced cycle time and met customer quality goals.
Lead cross functional improvement team to drive down phone current drain, exceeding goals by achieving 30% improvement over competitive phone with same chipset. DMAIC tools and process was followed to achieve result. Documented cost savings of $700k.

Managed ramp up for new platform including interviewing DSP vendors, reviewing pros and cons of each vendor based on projects needs and selected Motorola’s MCS8101 DSP. Managed initiative to become TL9000 / SEI CMM level 3 compliant. Arranged quarterly audits and delegated deficiencies found by auditors to group members.
Managed simultaneous DSP product software development programs where high quality software was delivered to high visibility customers. Agile software development model used to gather requirements/user stories, develop pseudo-code, code, and integration test cases before peers reviewed product code. 2 week sprints were used to develop code. User stories developed project estimates, met deadlines and delivered final product to internal customer and managed all personnel issues for nine DSP software engineers.

Lead DSP Engineer, Schaumburg, IL Motorola Inc 1995 – 1999
Modeled (Simulink) and coded algorithm that modulates 4 distinct 25 kHz QAM carriers into one 100 kHz wide IQ bit stream using existing code as starting point. Algorithm is used in next generation iDEN basestation DSP code. Algorithm consisted of multi-rate filters and implementation of weighted overlap / add synthesizer.
Developed embedded DSP software for basestations used in two-way communications systems. ‘V’ software development model in conjunction with a detailed, software development process was followed to create high quality, maintainable product that was layered to allow for significant software reuse as new basestation platforms emerge.
Senior Electrical Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer Motorola Inc 1989 – 1995
Responsible for the backend electrical manufacturing quality of the public safety basestation MS5000. Statistical process control and Kaizen methodologies were used to remove non value add activities, identify root cause of product failures and drive permanent corrective actions.
As a senior electrical engineer, I was responsible for the 3 synthesizers and VCO 6Sigma design for the first generation iDEN base station. HP’s Microwave design system was used to simulate circuits. Various other design activities were accomplished for basestation logic boards and RF class A amplifiers. Design reliability analysis was done using monte carlo simulations in MDS and SPICE. DFSS principals were applied to maximize reliability.
