IT Support Specialist

IT Support Specialist is responsible for the day to day monitoring and servicing of the computer infrastructure of Science Care. The computer infrastructure will consist of such elements as individual desktop PCs, laptops, enterprise software, phone systems and overall network of Science Care’s operations. The IT department consisted of two people: The IT Director and the IT Support Specialist from 2011-2015) when a server administrator was added.

Created documentation to set up and manage users for domain A/D and updated any that were created

Maintained Windows A/D with creating and modifying groups, adding printers and new devices

Was the level one help desk person for all incoming calls

Set up all users for Windows, Dynamics GP, Exchange 2010 mail and Exchange 365

Set up queues and voice mail for our telecommunication systems along with setting up DID and extensions throughout the company.

Was responsible for ordering from Verizon and AT&T phones and tablets (Apple/Android) for authorized users and was responsible for maintenance, replacement, and deployment for users all over the country. Set up the AT&T account in response to users having issues using Verizon network in some parts of the country

Maintained security and updates for phones with a cloud based service from IBM

Set up two systems for backup from start to finish: Veritas Netbackup and Dell AppAssure including setting up the physical server software, adding it to the domain and setting up the backup schedule and rotation for servers at Science Care. I was also responsible for off-site rotation of disks/tapes

Was involved with the new appliance/cloud backup – Unitrends – mainly restored files for users and monitored for backup failures

Used a customized SharePoint system to maintain tickets and requests for company-wide requests. This new system allowed me to serve more requests with a better response time

Set up and used Dell KACE to update and monitor servers and PC’s companywide by pushing out Dell bios update, Microsoft updates and push any program package we chose to send out for users. Had additional training in 2016 to push out more changes and updates

Was in charge of ordering Dell PC’s from either Dell or our partner, Cybertrails, and worked with them to get the best quality Dell machines and the best possible prices. I also ordered other IT supplies through Cybertrails or other vendors.

Responsible for deploying, imaging and rotating out machines on a yearly schedule. This included setting up machines in remote offices across the country, personally, and training as needed while I was remote. I traveled to our offices in Philadelphia, Fort Lauderdale, Denver and Long Beach, CA

Supported all the physical Dell servers along with the virtual servers in Hyper-V and in VMware including updates and rebooting as needed. Used Hyper-V mainly for setting clusters and sharing.

Was on-call 24x7 until 2016 when we gained a new employee then I was on for at least 15 days a month

Worked with our print management vendor, Laser Options, to support all of the printers connected to the network including replacement cartridges and service in the Phoenix area along with all of our other offices across the country

Repaired or reimaged desktop/laptop systems.

Worked with Dell when any of the physical servers were having issues or were down. Either I got a replacement part and put it in myself or had service come out and repair the servers

Worked with HR to disable users when they left the company or were terminated. Set up a procedure with HR to make sure that all accounts and access were turned off.

Assisted team in adding information for the corporate installation of Zoho Manage Engine by entering data, creating training/usage documentation, and verifying that the information was correct. This project reduced misdirected request tickets and pro-actively notified system administrators to potential problems. Required good communication skills and sharp eye for detail. Short term position. Contract ended.

Wyndham Hotel Group, Computer Operator September – October

Worked in the Hotel Group’s network operation center monitoring systems, elevating issues to on-call technicians, managers and key users. Monitored systems for errors, writing tickets in Assyst for any issues, sending tapes off-site for storage with Iron Mountain. Short term position. Contract ended.

Associate Computer Operator (IT Support)

Backed up computer systems, installed/repaired desktop systems, supported users on PROMIS MES systems, added users to VMS systems, first line of troubleshooting.

Established process of recycling computer parts taken out of Spec machines, parted them out and reused them on newer machines when possible saving the company hundreds of dollars.

Standardized Kiosk printers removing different printers and associated supplies and standardized them reducing costs by $3,500/yr and having consistent machines.

Monitored systems/backup for potential problems; caught potential failures during the weekend and provided front-line support to system users. Called vendors to fix devices when needed.

Created user guide for Window NT to support users and reduce common questions and problems called into the Helpdesk and gave new users a place to find answers. Point of reference for all users.

Gathered tapes and prepared log for off-site tapes sent to Iron Mountain.

Used Trouble Tracking System (Vantive/Custom Build) to track user issues.

Wrote and revised procedures for Computer Operations.

Installed new desktop or laptop computers with either Windows XP or Red Hat Linux. I also did any repairs that were necessary.

Added/Modified users in PROMIS MES, VMS, and within the Windows Active Directory.

Maintained the tape library for NetBackup systems by adding new tapes and storing tapes in tape library or off-site.
