Engineering Intern, General Kinematics, Illinois, USA Jun 2016 – Aug 2016
• Performed tests on a Vibratory Charge Feeder to determine if a new bolt and washer set would serve as an alternative in reducing spring and hardware failure. Dakota Max II bolt tension monitor was used in evaluating the bolt assemblies to determine a measurable comparison for loss of clamp load between two hardware configurations. Gage R&R was performed to validate repeatability and reproducibility in measuring bolt elongations.
• Tested different locknut samples on 1"-8 diameter hardware to validate that using the existing torque chart values will exhibit the required clamp load performance using the same bolts. Skidmore-Wilhelm bot tension tester & Norbar Model 1500 torque wrench was used for testing. Proposed an alternative based on test results.
• Tested various coatings on hardware assembly and calculated a Friction factor for achieving a higher clamp load at a lower torque.
• Performed statistical analysis to determine and reduce variance in spring rate from different manufacturers. This helped to bring the vibrating frequency of the final product closer to the frequency achieved in CAD simulations. Engineering Design Intern, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore, India Jul 2014 – Aug 2014
• Designed & drafted brackets, washers, and sleeves of an aircraft model using CATIA V5 software package.
• Performed Ultrasonic and Liquid Penetrant Non-Destructive Testing on landing gear components.
• Gained hands-on experience in heat treatment, casting and sheet metal fabrication. GRADUATE PROJECT EXPERIENCE (Illinois Institute of Technology) Design Analysis of Automotive Alloy Rim Jan 2016 – April 2016
• Performed CAD simulations for various test conditions; Static (Self-weight and lateral load), Dynamic (Impact test, Brake torque analysis, and Dynamic Cornering Fatigue test) and Modal Analysis. Software used: Autodesk Inventor, Hypermesh & Abaqus. Reliability Analysis of Automotive Hydraulic Pump Sept 2015 – Jan 2016
• Performed reliability tests such as ANOVA (Analysis of variation), PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis), Taguchi Methods & Time Dependent Test Plan. Also, plotted control charts to detect and reduce variance.
• Identified factors affecting the manufacturing process by using DOE which further helped in optimizing the output. PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Title: Remote Controlled Agricultural Sprayer, MSRIT, Bangalore, India Sep 2014 – May 2015
• Objective: Automate the pesticide & fertilizer spraying process in an agricultural farm.
• The key aspect was to reduce cost, which was achieved by sizing the motor and the pump for drive and spray mechanism. Fabricated a prototype for testing and small scale operation. Title: ISNEE NGKC Go-Kart Design and Manufacture, MSRIT, Bangalore, India Jan 2014 – Oct 2014
• Designed and fabricated ladder frame chassis in CATIA V5 to withstand various dynamic loads as per guidelines of the competition and performed various stress-strain analyses to justify the safety standards using ANSYS software package. CERTIFICATION
• Lean Management, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (Ongoing)
