OBJECTIVE: Polymer Chemist seeking position for Product Development Chemist or R & D Scientist

SUMMARY

Innovative and highly motivated research scientist with 10+ years of hands-on expertise in polymer design, characterization and formulation towards target specific applications. Developed in-depth understanding of structure-property relationship in polymers.

Strong project management experience in implementing process development and executing analytical experiments, facilitating small-scale screening and validation of 100+ functional polymer materials.

Excellent communication skills, and proven team leadership skills. Successfully led multiple research projects

involving cross-functional collaborations, resulting in 25 peer- reviewed publications with one international patent issued and an additional US patent application under review.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Post-Doctoral Researcher, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, US 10/2013 – 01/2017

Designed and developed several modified polyolefin matrices (e.g., PE, PE etc.) by functionalizing with polyvinyl employing novel Radiation Induced Graft Polymerization (RIGP) and Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) methods.

Instituted 3 major techniques for preparing polymer materials and processing, resulting in greater than 30% estimated cost recovery.

Improved productivity of my research laboratory by reducing experiment times by 95%.

Developed and validated several amidoxime based functional fiber adsorbents for the US Department of Energy, which successfully demonstrated a uranium adsorption capacity of more than 5 g-U/Kg-ads. after 56 days of exposure in the Sequim Bay, WA, and resulted in 10 publications in top-tier scientific journals.

Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as a member of a team. Provided training and supervision to junior scientists. Engaged in lab management, maintenance of analytical instrumentations, design of experiments, method development, data analysis, problem-solving, writing technical reports, and reporting data through presentations at various scientific meetings.

Research Engineer, Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne, France 04/2011 – 04/2013

Developed epoxy-based biocompatible, UV-curable liquid coating formulations for human skin wound dressing via cationic photo-polymerization.

Introduced several UV-cured scratch and abrasion resistant epoxy-based films with excellent adhesion properties on variety of matrix surfaces.

Demonstrated applications of the formulations in architectural coating, wood coating and as adhesives.

Invented epoxy-based UV-curable liquid plaster compositions which built the foundation for product launch by the URGO Company developing medical gel, and was granted an international patent.

Assistant Visiting Scholar, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, India 10/ 2010 – 03/2011

Developed smart polymer gels through functional groups architecting/imprinting. The imprinted polymer gels demonstrated good selectivity for recovery of the targeted metal ions from multi-component aqueous streams, resulting in one publication in peer-reviewed journal.

Graduate Research, University of Pune-Bhabha Atomic Research Center, India 10/2005 – 03/2011

Demonstrated expertise in design and development of functional polymer sorbents (i.e. membranes, hydrogels, thin films, etc.) and their physicochemical characterization for targeted applications.

Crafted and introduced new polymer membrane sorbents functionalized with amidoxime, sulfate and phosphate functional groups for toxic heavy metal ions uptake from various aqueous solutions.

Developed Naffion 117-based nano-composite film for sensing ultra-trace mercury.

Instituted method for characterizing pore size distribution and surface are of microporous materials.

Developed scintillation Polymer Inclusion Membrane (PIM) optode for detection of anionic radionuclides.

Designed and developed bio-resistant phosphate functionalized self-supported nano-composite film and nanoparticle reinforced PP non-woven substrate by one pot synthesis, and proved its anti-bacterial properties and thus demonstrated its different applications in bio-aggressive environment without bio-degradation.

Recognized with 4 best paper awards in international conferences, and 14 publications in journals.
