Multiyear project to design, develop, deliver, and ensure rollout of best of breed security model for the UNIX/Linux environment. Merged 5 ineffective and non-compliant security models in to a single Security framework, the new security framework was compliant, more cost effective and introduced automation to reduce the number of staff required supporting it. Reduce the number of 3rd party products, from 33 to 11, used to secure the environment. Original target was 20K systems but as virtualization was introduce that number grew to almost 40K in 3 years. Successfully deploy to over 90% of the population. Remaining systems were on unsupported platforms.
Architected and design new authentication and authorization platform for UNIX/Linux environment. Work with Solaris and redhead engineers to design a system integrating Kerberos and LDAP to provide a scalable and secure authentication and authorization platform. Developed and implemented a migration plan for NIS and NIS+ migrating the design in phases so the end users were not aware of any changes. Successfully rolled out to almost 40K systems.
Developed the Linux Standard operating environment (SOE) based on existing Solaris and AIX models. This standard based approach enabled other engineers to develop and deploy tools globally in a consistent and automated fashion. Growing the Linux populations from <1% of the populations to over 50% of the UNIX/Linux population.
