(I) Scientist (04/2016 - Present): US Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense, Physiology & Immunology Branch, APG, Edgewood, MD 21010 Responsibilities: • Research works to develop novel analytical and preparative scale supercritical fluid chromatography methods for the analysis of chemical warfare agents, related compounds and classified compounds in organic and aqueous formulations. • Design, implement, and conduct chemical, biochemical, and pharmacological analysis. • Research works to conduct enzyme kinetic experiments designed to determine catalytic parameters of enzyme- based drugs utilizing either spectrophotometric or chromatography/mass spectrometry detection based assays. • To maintain and troubleshoot liquid (LC/MS/MS), gas (GC/MS/MS) and supercritical fluid (SFC/MS/MS) chromatography instrumentation, compile and analyze 2
experimental data with commercially available spreadsheet, graphics and statistical analysis programs.
Achievement: • Successfully found that the biochemical compounds could be sufficiently separated by using SFC in a very short period of time. • Efficient separation was achieved compared to the conventional HPLC method. • Polarimetric analysis revealed successful chiral separations of some pharmaceutical compounds.

Responsibilities: • Provided professional expertise in corporate operational efforts such as preparation of technical proposals for contracts, scientific development of new businesses, and research and development. • Managed an R&D group responsible for developing formulations for new products that are manufacturable, stable, and approvable under current government guidelines. • Design and plan R&D trials in coordination with sale and manufacturing considering food contact regulations.
Achievement: • Development of new type of biodegradable or biobased polymer products and identification of innovation opportunities in the market of the applications of these products marketed by the company. • Successfully drive the product development programs and projects, ensuring budget, timeline, staffing, and other corporate/program goals are met.

Responsibilities: As a patent examiner in Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering fields, I reviewed patent applications to determine if they comply with basic rules and legal requirements, and my job was to research the subject matter claimed in patent applications. Achievement: My expertise was focus on analyzing advanced, innovative and complex concepts. I reviewed more than fifty patent applications.
(IV) Consulting scientist (10/2012 – 09/2013): Horticultural Research Institute, Inc. Washington D.C. 20005:
Responsibilities: Provide consultation occasionally regarding extrusion and manufacturing processes related to the development of commercial products from keratin based biodegradable polymer resin formulations that were invented in USDA-ARS Laboratory. Achievement: Provided the support concerning market development and product development for the application of agricultural/horticultural fields using keratin based biodegradable polymer resins and was looking for collaborators that can benefit from these types of biopolymer or biopolymer process more generally.
(V) Scientist I (11/2012 – 05/2013): Advanced BioNutrition Corp., Columbia, MD 21046: Responsibilities: • Perform bench-scale experiments in support of the seed inoculation and probiotic formulation in R&D department. The coating composition includes an oil-modified alkyd resin and unsaturated oil containing a conjugated double bond. • Perform various laboratory procedures, e.g., electronic cell counts, centrifugation, microscopic examination of bacterial cells that were used for seed coating & probiotic supplements. Achievement: Successfully accomplished the encapsulation of seeds with biodegradable polymer entrapped rhizobia bacteria that has been developed as a new seed-applied inoculum technique for utilizing legume-Rhizobium symbiosis for the management and protection of natural ecosystems. Worked collaboratively with various stakeholders and discussed research finding with R&D project leaders.

(VI) Research Scientist (8/2007 – 10/2012): USDA-ARS Agricultural Research Center, Beltsville, Maryland 20705:
Responsibilities: • Lead programs related to materials research, product development and testing, and new technology development & commercialization, especially for the keratin based biodegradable polymer resin material. • Formulations, processing and development of bioplastic materials from natural proteins (e.g., keratin, soybean protein) for the application of agricultural and horticultural fields. • Structure of natural protein was modified in attempts to develop a slow-release N fertilizer. • Design and evaluation of plastic film product development. • Provide technical support as required based on the experience as a product developer. • Plans, executes, and analyzes the highest priority studies on bio-based materials, as well as specifies designs, or purchases appropriate experimental apparatus to complete these studies. • Development of composite or bio-based material processing methodologies that best uses constituent materials. Achievement: • Successfully accomplished the modification of biodegradable polymers through reactive extrusion by pre-formulation, fabrication, analysis and development of hybrid biocomposites from biopolymer and biofibers / glass fibers / talc / biodegradable additive / urea
/ titanium dioxide. • Successful modification of protein that leads a slow-release fertilizer with a continually increasing rate of N release over a period of time. • Successfully develop the controlled-release fertilizer blends (e.g., several polymers, sulphur/clay-coated fertilizer types) for agriculture and horticulture. • Completion of design, formulations, processing, and development of hybrid biocomposites from feather keratin/poultry manure/petroleum based polymers (such as, polypropylene, PP/polyethylene, PE) for the application of agricultural and horticultural fields.

Responsibilities: • Preparation, analysis, and development of surface treated natural fibers and/or glass fibers-reinforced engineering plastic composites (surface modifications using Ammonia Fiber Expansion (AFEX), liquid ammonia treatment, silane coupling agent and alkali treatments, etc.). • Initiation, planning, and conducting advanced bio-based composites research to manufacture advanced wood-based and/or natural fiber-based composites and on the product performances. • Fabrication, analysis, and development of laminated and/or hybrid biocomposites from biopolymer and wood fiber / biofibers / glass fibers (where duties includes preparation of test panels by using compression molding, conducting standardized mechanical tests, and analyzing test results). • Composite materials processing and/or testing: combination of hand-layup, bonding, bagging, curing, breakout, and testing of composite components. • Determination of the effects of processing conditions on the morphology and properties of cellulose nanofibers and their composites. • Fabrication of film samples, testing of film products, and transfer of the formulations into manufacturing scale. Achievement: • Successfully accomplished the preparation, analysis, and development of structure-property relationships for biopolymer and polyolefin products made with catalysts systems. • Development of new nano-composites using biopolymer and using surface treated biofibers and clay. • Development of controlled laboratory UV/ozone treatments to enhance the adhesion properties of the epoxy-based paint. • Development of extraction of cellulose nanowhiskers, a crystalline form of nanocellulose, by acid hydrolysis of wood, bamboo, and wheat straw fibers using sulfuric acid. • Successfully extended the fundamental knowledge of the mechanisms of wood and/or bio-based composite failure to ensure long-term durability. • Successfully explore the new applications and transfer technology for bio-based materials. • Engaged in writing grant proposals, make technical presentations, publish results project management, and teaching undergraduate or graduate students. 4

Achievement: • Successfully completed an industrial project that was sponsor by Kellogg Company, entitle: “Moisture sorption isotherm characteristics of Kellogg’s cereals” in order to generate the fundamental sorption data on cereal at different temperatures which is valuable in mapping out strategy to control its storage stability. • Got the knowledge and experience about the traditional and instrumental analytical methods that used in food processing laboratory, such as (i) encapsulation, nano-technology, or food processing equipment, including laboratory scale sample prep, and Pilot Plant operation formulation development; (ii) use of freeze dryer, spray dryer, fluid bed dryer, etc.

Responsibilities: • Research works on the studies of supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) preparative chiral separation of some pharmaceutical compounds using Chiralcel and Chiralpak chiral stationary (CSPs) of Daicel, including Chiralpak IA, IB and IC immobilized polysaccharide type CSPs. • Research works on the effect of annealing condition on the properties of poly(L-lactide) films by DMA analysis including crystallinity change that were investigated by XRD and SEM .
Achievement: • Successfully found that several pharmaceutical compounds could be sufficiently separated by using SFC. • Very efficient separation was achieved compared to the conventional HPLC method. • DMA analysis revealed a simpler relationship between thermal history and the internal structure of PLLA films that were prepared by casting, compared with that of PLLA films prepared by processing (e.g., compression molding, reactive extrusion, etc.).
