As a student of life, I bring an expansive fund of knowledge to the field of education. I am innovative in teaching methods and radiate warmth and enthusiasm to the learning process. Although my primary area of expertise is health and science, I have experience teaching a variety subjects. Specific passions of mine include French, creative writing, psychology and history.
As a former college instructor, I am knowledgeable about learning theories and am intuitive when evaluating a student's individual learning style. My previous students have described me as approachable, warm and empathetic. I was named outstanding instructor of the year two years in a row. I have the ability to make learning fun as well as challenging. One of my innate talents is to present complex concepts in understandable terms. I am encouraging and skillful at bringing out the best in each student. My manner is calm while assisting individuals to strive for excellence.
Students find interaction with me comforting and non-threatening. I promote the notion of personal responsibility to one's self, one's community and the planet. Our students are our future. As educators, we are accountable for assuring they are properly armed with the skills they need to succeed.
With over 40 years in medical field, my expertise in healthcare spans almost every area in nursing. I have worked in the ER, ICU, OB/GYN, Post-partum, Med-Surg, Psych and Home Health. I have also worked as a nurse educator for University of Louisville, Sullivan University, and Spencerian College, both as classroom lecturer and clinical instructor. After becoming a nurse practitioner, I saw a real need to provide care to people with alcohol and drug problems, and this has been my most rewarding job yet. I will be happy to work with you. The NCLEX exams can be very intimidating. I have assisted many students prepare for HESI and NCLEX. My particular talent lies in evaluating problem areas and test-taking skills, and developing a plan to correct these areas. Some common mistakes many candidates make are changing answers and reading too much into the questions. I spend a good deal of time on these two areas. We will work together to incorporate a strategy for determining what the question is really asking. I have also found that many students suffer from test anxiety and forget what they know due to panic. I can teach you some breathing techniques that will alleviate fear and improve mental clarity and focus by releasing dopamine into the prefrontal cortex.
