SAFETY OFFICER

(Work Placement: Hotazel)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: Ÿ Monitoring and reporting on compliance to applicable Health and Safety Legislation Ÿ Carry out inspections of working places and machinery as per regulations 2.17.1 of the MHSA on a scheduled basis. Ÿ Make recommendations on deviations found during inspections. Ÿ Ensure that results of Inspections are recorded and reported to the relevant persons. Ÿ Facilitate and perform Risk Assessments

Ÿ Monitor the reporting of incidents and investigate incidents to determine root causes and appropriate remedial measures Ÿ Conduct scheduled audits to assess compliance to current Code of Practices, SOP's and managerial instructions Ÿ Monitor and Audit Contractors within your area of responsibility to ensure compliance to Mine Health and Safety System and legal requirements (OHSAS 18001 and MHSA)

Competencies Required:

Ÿ Minimum of five (5) years mine operational environment with extensive exposure to Health and Safety experience Ÿ Conversant with Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996) and other legislation applicable to a mining environment Ÿ Accident investigation experience

Ÿ Report writing and data reporting skills (Essential) Ÿ Contractor Management (Essential)

Ÿ Strong communication skills both verbal and written Ÿ Strong interpersonal communications, tact, good judgment, analytical skills required Qualification:

Ÿ Grade 12

Ÿ COMSOC 1 & 2 or SAMTRAC (Essential)

Ÿ A National Diploma in Safety Management will be advantageous Ÿ Red Seal or Blasting Certificate

Ÿ A valid Code B/EB Driver's Licence

Ÿ Computer literate – MS Office
