A General Description of the ward and the Hospital:
Surgical Ward 21A is a mixed cardio thoracic surgery
In addition, cardiology. We are included under the umbrella of nursing department, where the administrative and professional development activities of the nurses were paid special attention by the nursing management.
This unit currently has 24 beds as regular beds and 3 beds as day care patients. In addition, caters for patients with arterial septal defects, repair of replacement of aortic valves, mitral valves, and tricuspid valves, pulmonic valves.
Coronary artery bypass grafts, pericardiectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, lung biopsies, thoracosscopies, excision of mediastinal cysts and tumors, esophagectomy, thymectomy, IHD, ACS,post MI, pre& post cardiac catherization, PTCA, Implantation of permanent pacemaker,ICD,CRT,Cardoversion and Ablation.
Being a university teaching hospital, with the various sub-specialties provide the most modern and update facilities and services in their respect fields.
KKUH is a 920-beds tertiary center and provides services for patients in Riyadh and referral from throughout the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Nursing Department has an active professional department program with general sessions complemented by unit specific sessions. All nurses have mandatory annual assessment in fire safety, I.V canulation, infection Control, and medication calculation.
