Led Operational Engineering, R&D, Product Management, New Product Development with P&L, and IT Development activities across 9 plants for Overhead’s $700 million garage door division. Created sustainable value improvements through leadership in new product design, product validation, process design, new manufacturing equipment implementation & assembly line set up, plant kaizen lean sigma quality continuous improvements, change management, pre & post sale support, & product litigation.

Led Lear’s Advanced Business Development team for Instrument Panels (IP), Floor Consoles, Door Panels, Pillar, & Garnish Trim. Managed all technical aspects for new business pursuits including identification of and implementation readiness for new technology, technical cost card reviews, & customer technical presentations.

The team grew Lear’s North American IP market share from 6% to 13% and achieved the #1 Door Panel market position. Specific emphasis on Asian OEM new business growth.

Granted 7 patents for: seamless airbag tear seam design, plastic side impact bracket, tunable side impact foam, electronic multi-tray, G-force push-push latch, & edge mounted touch-less switches.

United Technologies / Lear Engineering Manager: 11/98 to 9/00

Led various Automotive Tier 1 engineering, manufacturing, & design teams:

Led UTA’s12 person team to meet cost, mass, & performance targets for GM’s Cadillac Seville Instrument Panel (IP) structural components. Achieved 18% ($30.59/IP) cost, 15% tooling, & 6.4% ( 1.2 kg) mass reduction from awarded quote.

Led all engineering activities for GM’s 2004 GMT305 Midgate. Parts included exterior weatherable SMC Panels, roll formed steel structure, window regulators, latches, wiring, & hinge systems.

Lead Structure Engineer for the 2002 Delta (GM’s Chevrolet Cavalier & Pontiac Sunfire) Instrument Panel Program for United Technologies Automotive Corporation (UTA). Responsible for achieving 11.7% cost savings ($6.50/IP) & 13% mass reduction from the 1st to 2nd cockpit build iteration for all I/P components. Granted 2 US patents for plastics structural ducts and magnesium steering column support bracket designs (Lear bought UTA in 8/99)

DOW AUTOMOTIVE: Automotive Plastic & Part supplier division of Dow Chemical. Auburn Hills, MI & Camacari, Brazil 9/00 to 4/03

Global Technology Leader with P&L responsibility for Dow Automotive’s technology offering in the Chassis and Powertrain automotive market. Strategic & Tactical development of product technology, application, & feasibility assessment, concept development, concept validation, product & system development through to product launch. Primary technologies include plastic bonded intake manifolds, valve covers, radiator fans & shrouds, engine acoustics, and hydrogen fuel cell components. Managed over 20 direct reports in 4 countries. 10/01 to 4/03.

Engineering Manager for Dow Automotive’s 2003 Ford Amazon program. P&L responsibility including concept development, part design, tool design, molding trials, part validation, prototype builds, and assembly of all interior and exterior trim for Ford’s Amazon mini-SUV vehicle produced in Camacari, Brazil. Managed 14 direct reports in USA and Brazil. Granted one patent for rear cargo cover support on the interior trim. 9/00 to 10/01

GENERAL ELECTRIC PLASTICS: Global supplier of engineered thermoplastics. Pittsfield, MA & Southfield, MI 10/93 to 11/98

Field Application Development Engineer: GE Plastics- Automotive Region: 6/97 to 11/98.

Engineering program manager for GE Plastics’ Chrysler, Toyota, & Mitsubishi automotive interior applications. Co-located at Automotive OEM facilities throughout the Detroit, MI area. Grew GE’s plastic sales by converting parts to plastic.

Program Manager for 4 Instrument Panel programs totaling over $22 million/year in resin sales for GE: 2002 Dodge Ram Truck, 2002 Toyota Camry, 1999 Mitsubishi Galant, & 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse.
