EHS Manager

Responsible for all EHS programs that included DEP’s Operating Permits, Air Permits, NPDES, SPCC, Tier ll & TRI reports, HazMat, HazWaste, HAZWOPER, Haz Comm (SDS’s) and OSHA standards. Developed ISO 14001 and created an Environmental, Health & Safety Management System Manual. Started OSHAS 18001 and had the lead responsibility for creation & approval of e-scrap standards: e-Stewards & R2 programs for certifications. Initiated Safety Committee for state certification reducing Worker’s Compensation costs by 5%. Created Work Instructions (SOP’s) & conducted all EHS training. 2002 - 2006 EHS Manager

Responsibilities included the Safety & Health Programs for 300+ employees with ~200 Teamsters Union workers. The Gas Company (TGC) manufactured Methane at their Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) Plant and distributed the Methane through an underground pipeline across the Island of Oahu. The SNG Plant fell under the Process Safety Management Standard. I was also responsible for the Transmission & Distribution Department & our LPG Supply & Distribution Department for propane delivery via trucking & barging to all of the outer island facilities/customers.

Worked with consultants from Hawaii Occupational Safety & Health Dept (HIOSH) on starting the Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) program in working toward a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

Completed and submitted OSHA 300’s & all Worker Compensation (WC-1) reports.

Managed the WC-1 Program including a Back-To-Work Program. Attended doctor appointments and worked with physicians to coordinate employee’s return to work.

Contracted & managed Asbestos Abatement & Mold Remediation Projects.

Responsible for the compliance of all EPA/Hawaii Department of Health (HDOH) requirements including UST’s and AST’s.

Worked directly with the Clean Air, Clean Water and Hazardous Waste Branches of the HDOH.

Created & instituted a color coded identification labeling system throughout the plant.

Supervised the Operator Training Program and managed the Standard Operating Procedures Program.

Worked directly with the Yokogawa conversion team to convert our Foxboro pneumatic control system to an electronic Digital Control System (DCS).

Worked internally with EHS, Maintenance, Human Resources, Information Systems Department, Legal, Transmission & Distribution and LPG Supply & Distribution.

Worked externally with Tesoro Petroleum Corporation, Chevron, HDOH, environmental & safety contractors and government & union officials.

4 Shift Supervisors, our Process Engineer and the Chemist reported directly to me.

1990 - 1999 BHP Honolulu, Hawaii
