Worked on a large 350+ million dollar pulp mill upgrade project (DeltaV DCS Version 11.3) Duties included generation of database for a 1500 I/O point system with alias, graphics, control modules and SFC’s. Corrected detail design docs. Modified DeltaV PCSD modules into new class based modules. Resolved issues with Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). Scope of project included 8 new digesters, new chip delivery system, modifying existing liquor delivery system and converting over 2 existing digesters that run multiple grades of Specialty and Dissolving Pulp.

NEW YORK POWER AUTHORITY (NYPA), Niagara Falls, NY 7/2011 – 7/2012

CONSTRUCTION/PROJECT/TEST ENGINEER (Contract)

Worked as a full time construction engineer for NYPA in Power Division projects in Niagara Falls, New York. Worked in the field on a LEM (Life Extension Modernization) project in LPGP (Lewiston Pump-Generating Plant), Asbestos abatement project, Unit No. 2 Standardization in Robert Moses plant, and 115KV Breakers replacement project in switchyard. Reviewed and updated as-built documentation. Involved in scope, estimation, design, procurement and startup phases of multiple projects. Worked as a full time consultant engineer for NYPA in Power Division on Wind Mill projects in Upstate New York. Worked as a full time consultant engineer for United Refinery in Warren, PA. Projects were a 2 million dollar upgrade to an existing boiler, 4 million dollar project for an additional Ethanol Tank and Rail Unloading, 4 million dollar Waste Water Project, several estimates for Cooling Tower upgrades, new Coker, Biodiesel, Bottom Loading Rack upgrades, new Asphalt Tanks and Security upgrades. Acted as lead Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls Engineer on a 6 million dollar new Compressor Testing Facility.

Worked with a small software development group to design, write and manage testing for a large pharmaceutical project. (Lonza Biologics, two-13000 DST DeltaV batch projects for new plants in Singapore)

Responsible for the delivery of quality test cases to a schedule and on budget.

Reviewed (CCR- change control requests) and implemented changes to phase logic, equipment modules, control modules, operations and procedures for two-13,000 DST DeltaV batch projects.

Developed and tested (Class Type) Functional and Design Specifications for Equipment Modules, Control Modules, Procedures, Unit Procedures, Operations, and Phases.

Project/Design Engineer responsible for design, construction and start-up of small (less than 30 MW)

power generation plants. Project includes use of landfill gas (LFG) to power Caterpillar G3516 and 3520

engine-generator sets specifically designed to operate on LFG. Responsible for all aspects of the project

including engineering, permitting, site leasing, utility contract negotiation and site preparation.

Also assisted in the installation of the high and low voltage wiring for the facility. Most projects

included use of Proficy Machine Edition with GE PLC’s.

Commissioning Engineer responsible for 300+ million dollar brew house expansion with a 22,000 DST DeltaV system. Responsible for commissioning, start-up, debugging phases and procedures that controls 40 – 93,000 gallon Fermenters, Pall Membrane Filter System (first time used in USA), and 24 – 161,000 gallon Maturation Vessels. Bus systems include Ethernet, Profibus, Fieldbus, ASi, DeviceNet, DH+, Mynah serial interface to Allen Bradley 1771 I/O, Modbus. Areas covered in this project are Grain Handling, Brew House, Yeast Fermentation, Maturation and Filtration, CIP, Brew Utilities, Blend and Finish, Railcar Loading/Unloading.

Engineer responsible for Automation, Electrical and Information Systems infrastructure construction activities and served as the commissioning lead for all process systems. Responsible for the installation, commissioning (C&Q) (IQ/OQ/PQ-Installation-Operational and Process Qualification) documentation and testing of a $37M project. Process areas of responsibility included Autoclaves, Cabinet Washers, Buffer Prep, Freeze Dryers, Water for Injection and other plant utilities such as Clean Steam Generation, Clean in Place and other skid based delivery systems.

(P&ID’s, ladder logic, graphics, interlocks, start-up and safety issues) (Safety Integrity Level (SIL1 vs. SIL2) Worked with British Gas Process/Project Engineers on Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation issues on the job site. Responsible for overseeing work on job site with 500+ contractors.

Worked on several Freeze Dryer projects for Bristol-Myers Squibb, Stryker, Kedrion S.P.A. and Sicor Pharmaceutical. Revised design documents to GAMP4 and CFR Part 11 requirements. Developed SCADA with Intellution iFIX. Wrote and modified ladder logic for Freeze Dryer projects. Freeze Dryers used Sytech XLReporter Professional for batch reports.

Worked with a large software development group to design, write and manage testing for a large pharmaceutical project. (Eli Lilly, 16000 I/O DeltaV batch project)

Senior Packaging Engineer

Responsible for design of package systems including instrumentation, process systems design and developing corporate standards for lube oil consoles and gas seal panels. Also worked on variety of projects for Brazil and China which entailed design and application of equipment for gas line, petrol chemical and oil refinery plants applications. Controlled budget of $100,000.

Directed work with 3rd party integrator on developing standardized product lines for lube oil consoles and gas line panels. Reduced lead time preparation from 16 to 12 weeks.

Revised outdated price book, which led to increased profitability, approximately $750,000 for lube oil consoles and $120,000 for gas seal panels.

Worked with software development group to create a standardized product line of equipment, which was then made available to Sales.

Resolved production related problems, which resulted in increasing production efficiency and minimized 3rd party vendor “adders” by about $50 to $100,000 per month.

PRAXAIR INC., Buffalo, NY 2001

Control System Engineer

Initiated, designed and managed piping and instrumentation drawings for a $20 million plant upgrade for this Hydrogen/Co Company with Global System Supply Group. Resulted in 50% plant capacity increase for the Ontario, California facility.

Resolved variety of issues by integrating Rebis Software Program with Auto Cad 2000.

Worked with Corporate Operations Group on integrating an asset management solution, (preventative maintenance) software program that resulted in 10% less down time for 25 different plants.

JACOBS ENGINEERING, Rochester, NY and DB RILEY INC., Worcester, MA 2000 - 2001

Contract Engineering Positions

Worked with group of 12 contract engineers on small project portfolio assignments for Kodak Park facility with about 15,000 employees.

Led the development and initiation of new graphics and logic program to automate an existing manual system. Wrote 300 pages of ladder logic for Allen Bradley PLC 560.(100 I/O point system) Cut production down time by 5%.

Trained operational staff in use of new automated system. Designed and wrote 100+ SAMA drawings for SCR projects with American Electric and Power in Columbus, Ohio. Total cost for each 1300MW SCR project was 200+ million.

ASHLAND CHEMICAL CO., Columbus, OH 1996 - 2000

Senior Project Engineer Design Group

Managed a team of 10-12 contractors working on a variety of projects. Responsible for projects over $250K in all divisions under Ashland, including Composite Polymers, Electronic Chemical, Specialty Polymers and Adhesives, Foundry, Industry Chemicals and Solvents, Drew, General Polymer and Petrol Chemical. Project responsibilities included all areas in electrical, instrumentation and controls. Majority of projects were NEMA 7 areas (Class 1, Div. 1). Involved in scope, estimation, design, procurement and startup phases of multiple projects. Project teams included plant personnel, process, project, environmental and design engineers. Majority of projects were of PLC and/or DCS (RS3 or DeltaV) controlled.

Constructed and presented a one-day seminar for Fisher Rosemount User Group. Large Scale Project Implementation using DeltaV. Focus on developing software standards.

Designed, spec out and started up a 1000 I/O point DeltaV batch system. Total cost of plant upgrade was 9.2 million.

Associate Engineer - Penicillin Plant

Responsible for working with Plant Engineering, Maintenance, Production and Corporate Engineering on a $32 million expansion. Directed activities of 6 employees at an existing pilot plant.(monoclonal antibody’s)

Developed calibration procedures, worked with validation group on resolving production issues with non-performing equipment. Created “loop calibration procedure” which reduced monthly calibration expectations by more than 10%. Plant average of 7000+ calibrations/PM’s a year.
