Conlusion:
This project equiped me with
the ability to cooporate energy
analysis with floor plan layout.
The size, orientation and angle of
the opening can affect the building
performance.
In addition, I learnt to utilize
passive cooling system to design
building section and envelop.
It was my first time trying to
cooporate a number of different
design features into one
project. There was still room for
improvements on designing and
emphasizing the design language.
Nevertheless, this project was
meaningful and helpful for me
to undertand what is integrated
building design.
Project Description:
New mixed-use development for two currently vacant downtown Rochester parcels. 61 North Chestnut Street is triangular and approximately and 420 East Main Street. The vision of project:
Creating a dynamic mixed-use complex which is a fitting addition to the East Main Street cor- ridor.
Deploying program elements in a way that is most likely to support and create pedestrian level vitality and amenities.
Creating a pattern of development which is appropriate to the site and which demonstrates a strategy that may be extrapolated to other opportunity sites in Downtown Rochester so that they may function as a dynamic and satisfying contributors to the center city community. Urban New Design

Conlusion:
The first thing I learnt from this
project is the concept of urban
buildings. Urban building should
has a strong releationship
with surrouding enviornment,
including land scape, building
context and pedestrian
experience.
Due to the special location of
this project, I also learnt the
important meaning of Main
Street in American culture.
Buildings standing on Main
Street are considered to be
unique in emphasizing Main
Street and confirming the edge
of Main Street.

Conlusion:
The central idea of this project
is building adaptive reuse of a
historical building that used to be
a landmark.
Walking experience of pedestrian
was emphasized in this project.
To achieve this goal, we decide to
restore the exterior facade back to
the year of 1915.
Since the information of interior
structure is unavaible, we were
challenged to follow the exterior
windows’ position to layout the
apartment floor plan, which is to
some extent opposite to “inside
out”. However this experience
was very interested and very
challenging.
Project Description:
Located in the heart of the city’s historic shopping district, this block-long collection of retail buildings features important examples of commercial architecture constructed between the 1860s and 1940s. After the great Sibley fire of 1904, new retail buildings were constructed here to accommodate larger stores. By the 1970s, however, a number of these retail operations had closed and new uses were proposed for these buildings, including “The Mill” shopping mall and “Renaissance Square,” which featured a major performing arts center. Today, renewed in- terest in these underutilized buildings and the ongoing rehabilitation of many adjacent proper- ties, signals an opportunity to rehabilitate one of the city’s most distinctive commercial blocks. This is a team project. Teammember are Wylie, Susan and Bixiao Shen. Adptive Design

Conlusion:
The central idea of this project
is building adaptive reuse of a
existing building. Our goal was
to connect the north side with
sourth side of the city by creating
a healthy living center.
Releation ship to surround
neighbourhood was emphasized
in this project. To achieve this
goal, we decide the program
we thought that can improve
the development of DownTown
Rochester.
Unfortunately, we wont achieve
the tax credit for not keep the
structure and major decade. But
to get a better use of these three
pieces of tiny bulidngs, combing
them as one building is much
valuable and sensible.
