Ruddy McGlashan productive Telecom career spans over 30 years. As the Telecom industry evolved over the years, he had the foresight and ambition to capitalize on the opportunities these innovations presented. His capabilities as a Telecom Executive/Entrepreneur resulted in four successful start-ups in which he was either a founding member or the exclusive owner. He was formally trained in telecommunications at the College of Arts Science & Technology and the Jamaica Telephone Company in Jamaica. 2013-2016. Present. GoLifeTel Inc. President.
July of 2013 Ruddy started GoLifeTel which will focus on the MVNO wireless sector and international telecom
Consultng.Through this company projects gained knowledge and experience in establishing an Eligible Tel Carrier
Which focused on the Government subsidized telecom program. And the mobile Top-Up market.
Currently he is the general manager of a recently acquired Top-Up and International Exchange Carrier
He has written all their policies and procedures and selected their switching platform for the wholesale product
For the sales has introduced 35 customers and vendors within first three months
2012-2013. Covista Telecom. Vice President OF Engineering & Operations.
Starting in May 2012 Ruddy was employed as Vice President of Engineering and Operations to oversee and
Optimize Covista’s telecommunications network.
At the end of 2013 he accomplished the following.
Restructured all Engineering functions under a formal tiered format resulting in efficient management and
completion of projects and day to day deliverables.
Centralized Engineering & Operations of the two products - Long Distance Company and the Switch Partition
Company
Introduced policy and procedures to reduce down time and management of large customers, resulting in
Reduction of total trouble tickets and very satisfied customers.
Decommissioning and optimizing of inefficient Central Offices which improve bottom line.
Restarted the wholesale/carrier services and streamlined the hosted cloud services.
Rewrote all contracts and service agreements associated with wholesale and hosted services
Assisted Principals in selling the Company to Birch Communications and lead the due diligence
Process on the engineering and operations transition.
2010-2011. Stargate Mobile. Founder Vice President & CTO
In April 2010, he secured investors for a prepaid mobile service model (MVNO) with emphasis on the SIM card and direct international dialing. This company, Stargate Mobile was established and Ruddy took the position of Vice President and Chief Technical Officer. With a cadre of vendors and internal resources, Stargate was fully operational within 6 months with services on the nation’s largest GSM network and Stargate’s own prepay international platform. Ruddy successfully completed the project by bringing the concept to fruition with distribution of the product in over 60,000 outlets.
2009-2010. Project. FireFly mobile. Chief Technical Officer.
Ruddy was contracted by Firefly, the leading mobile phone service for kids/pre-teens. Within 6 months, under a management contract with a team of three (3), they renegotiated all existing contract deriving significant savings to the bottom line. The base of approximately 6,000 users was converted from post-paid to prepay on the nation’s largest GSM network and cancellation was reduced from 45% to 2%.
1998-2009 Communication Technology Inc. Founder & CEO
In 1998 he was the sole founder of Communication Technology Inc. (CTI) which provided international links to developing countries as well as other services and products. Agreements were secured with several countries and they became the foundation for this International Internet Network. In 2000 CTI was acquired by Telefonica de Espana and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Telefonica. Ruddy continued with the company on a four (4) year contract in the capacity of President. CTI became the central hub for Tier 2 traffic from the USA to Telefonica companies in Latin America. In 2005 Telefonica changed its strategy and resold CTI back to its original owner. CTI continued to operate until the economic downturn in 2007 through 2009, during which time CTI finally closed its operation.
1993-1998 Trescom International. Founder President/COO.
In 1993 he co-founded TresCom International with funding from Investment Bankers focusing on the international marketplace with an emphasis on wholesale and retail and was appointed Chief Operating Officer. Early 1996 the executive team took TresCom International from a privately held company to a publicly traded interexchange carrier. He continued to oversee the international market and assisted in building the company through acquisitions and internal growth. Ruddy was directly responsible for all technical operations and international relations with overseas carriers. In 1998 TresCom was acquired by Primus Telecom.
1989-1997 ATC/Microtel. Senior Vice President.
In 1989 Telus Communications was acquired for $125 million to ATC/Microtel (ATC) where Ruddy was given the responsibility of the First Fiber Optic Network in Florida. As Senior VP Engineering and Operations, he was responsible for overseeing and directing six (6) vice presidents. During this time they developed the industry’s first Intelligent Calling Card platform “ON LINE”. The first ATM, Transaction Network for banking was established under his leadership. The Florida State Lottery selected ATC for its backbone network. ATC was the largest publicly traded interexchange carrier. In 1993 ATC was acquired by LDDS (WorldCom). After a year with WorldCom Ruddy resigned to pursue other ventures.
1988-1997 Long Distance America Vice President
After Network 1 was sold to Metromedia Ruddy was recruited by Long Distance America (LDA) as Vice President of Engineering and Operations. Ruddy redesigned the entire switching network as well as renegotiated all vendor contracts creating significant savings for the company. As Vice President, Ruddy established all of the engineering and traffic engineering line cost procedures. With this vehicle, LDA acquired Teltec Communications. The company was renamed Telus Communications and Ruddy continued as Vice President of Engineering and Operations responsible for all technical aspects of the company. This included optimizing and expanding the new network. Ruddy was a pioneer in establishing the first traffic exchange with several other carriers, which later spawned the wholesale concept in the industry for Tier 2 Carriers.
1969-1987 Network1 Director of Engineering & Operations
His Telecommunication career began at The Jamaica Telephone Company, where he became the youngest executive on the management team with responsibilities covering six (6) central offices and special services. In 1980 Ruddy continued his career on a telephony engineering path in the USA, joining Network 1, which was the first reseller in Florida. He developed and implemented most of the technical procedures and programs of Network 1. These programs included areas of traffic engineering, network optimization, FCC regulations and tariffs, field services and switching operations.
EDUCATION
Ruddy graduated from St. Andrew Technical High School in 1969 with a major in Engineering. After high school, he was formally trained in telecommunications at the College of Arts Science And Technology Jamaica W.I. He also attended numerous technical and management courses. Computer skills include: Excel, Power Point, and Word.
