Intergraph started a new product called Standard Database - SDB in 2009. SDB is preconfigured database to support over 100 metallic and non-metallic Piping and structural component definitions according to US standards, Japan standards. The content for these Piping components is loaded with enough details in the tables to create more than five million Commodity Codes and billions of Idents. SDB Migration Tool is a .NET based application to help users to migrate to different versions of Intergraph Standard Database SDB.

Description:

Smart3D is a software to model plants, ships and offshore platforms. Once modelling is done the drawings and reports required for construction are generated. The graphic representation objects to be modeled (valves, fittings, equipment) in S3D are called as Symbols. The symbol is software component that defines the graphics to be shown in the model. The symbol can be developed using VB6. The symbol creates the graphics using the COM APIs provided by Smart3D.To enable the software for use with very large models (>4GB), it is planned to make Smart3D as 64bit application. With this plan all symbols also should be made 64bit, but VB6 does not support 64. There one more problem that Microsoft eventually stops support for VB6. To overcome the problems stated above, the decision was taken redevelop all symbols using .Net. Also new APIs required are provided for easier development of symbols. The process of conversion of symbols from VB6 to .Net cannot done by code conversion tools, because the underlying APIs to be used are changed A team is formed to redevelop symbol using C# and test their interchangeability with VB6 symbols.
