WORK EXPERIENCE
AD DESIGNER
The Times (Gainesville) - Gainesville, GA - October 2013 to Present
• Design and create ads for 8 newspapers using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator per customer requests.
• Design graphics to meet corporate branding guidelines, departmental standards and client instructions.
• Design and create commercial-print newsletters; including layout, article design and ad design.
• Create online ads for all newspapers; and upload to DFP.
• Proofs/edits ads and graphics, ensuring a high-quality product.
• Participates in collaborating meetings for commercial publications.
• Process camera-ready ads, checking 4 color black, correct ad size, and proof for typos, date discrepancies, etc.
• Place sister-pubs’ newspaper pages (PDFs) in an InDesign template and quality check pages; then send the pages to the press to be plated using Pre-Page-It.
• Assist the News Room with layout issues, missing ads, ads not linked, etc.

• Created and updated the Vail Valley Medical Center forms and documents.

CREATIVE GRAPHICS DESIGNER
Colorado Mountain News Media - Gypsum, CO - September 2007 to March 2010
• Responsible for the Slifer Update Real Estate Magazine. On a monthly basis color-corrected 300+ photos in Photoshop and inserted information from realtors in correct format (using Excel, InDesign, ftp sites, etc.) and checked for consistencies. This is a monthly magazine of multi-million dollar mansions; also loaded pages to the Slifer website. Magazine ranged from 72-104 pages monthly.
• Placed advertisements in the newspaper layouts for prepress for 12 newspaper and magazine publications weekly, using QuarkXPress.
• Created ads for newspaper, magazine print and web format according to client request, using InDesign and Illustrator.
• Pre-flight PDFs for newspaper print.
• Created legal displays according to state regulations, using MS Word and InDesign.
• Compiled production reports monthly for the department.
• Communicated daily with our sales reps, printers, and outside vendors.
LEAD FORMS DESIGNER / BACKUP TO SUPERVISOR
Assurant Solutions - Miami, FL - June 1985 to August 2006
• In supervisor’s absence, managed workflow for forms designers, handled clients as needed, solved any problems/issues.
• The “go-to” person for problems/issues in department for customers and co-workers.
• Wrote detailed, step-by-step instructions (Standard Operating Procedures) for all projects and processes within the Document Shop department.
• Trained designers (1-on-1) on new software/hardware, techniques and department processes as they were updated. Also trained new designers on department processes and all documents created in department.
• Created and worked with Master Pages, assigning and using Paragraph Styles, headers and footers; changing page numbers for different sections within a manual or project.
• Prepared artwork, layouts, drafts, mock-ups, and other materials as needed by print vendors, and internal and external clients (using a light table and exacto knives).
• Designed and produced complex and detailed state-filed documents and corporate forms to exact specifications.
• Prepared, converted, and downloaded images for use on mainframe printers.
• The lead designer in the development of mainframe documents and met with programmers, project managers, etc. on multiple projects; solved one of the main components the programmers were having creating overlays for a documerge project.

Forms: Designed flat forms; multiple-page applications/forms; claim forms, electronic forms to be filled in online; continuous and unit-set forms; envelopes (using QuarkXPress, PageMaker, InDesign, Word and Excel).
Creatives: Designed PowerPoint presentations, award certificates, flyers, posters, flip charts, training manuals, information books, newsletters (up to 24-page newsletters), business cards, booklets, brochures, note pads, and letterheads (using QuarkXPress, PageMaker, InDesign, Word and Excel).
Graphics: Scanned and cleaned/manipulated photographs, in-line art, logos, signatures, etc. (using Photoshop, Corel Draw and Illustrator).
DocuMerge: Mainframe production documents. Typed letters and forms with documerge tagging information and correct font lists, etc. Scanned any graphics and convert accordingly. Downloaded documents to mainframe computers (using QuarkXPress, PageMaker, InDesign, Word and Excel).
Also while working at Assurant, held these extra positions:
• Suggestion Committee Administrative Assistant (5/1995-8/1999)
On a bimonthly basis, filed evaluated suggestions for the entire company (2,000+ employees); input the status information (denied or approved), amount of award, and evaluator’s name and department; verified suggestions to the reports; printed out, copied and distributed reports to all committee members; attended monthly meetings.
• United Way Committee Member (5/1997-9/1998)
Attended monthly, bimonthly, then weekly meetings to plan the 1997 and 1998 United Way Campaigns. Designed logos and various artwork for the campaigns. Artwork included posters, flip charts, table tents, different contest flyers, letterheads and note pads with campaign logo, and the Employee Contribution Pledge Form. Participated in decorating the lobby for kickoff day and welcoming employees kickoff morning for both years.
