Experience

SR TECH ARCHITECT (CONSULTANT) AT OPTIONS CLEARING CORPORATION, NOV 2014-PRESENT

EMPLOYER: MASTECH INC.

Real Time Risk Assessment: In progress

Options Clearing Corporation is the largest option clearing firm in United States. All the option trades received by this firm in a business day are processed by the end of the day batch jobs. Based on these trades, customer margins are also calculated at the end of the day. The aim of this assignment was to devise a solution to assess trades at the real time for risk and calculate the margins multiple times during the day and send margin calls to the customers to cover the risk.

Provided solution to capture the real time trade data from various price feeds like OPRA, track the changes in the prices and create price bands valid till the next significant change in the price occurs. The real time trades will be validated against the above mentioned price-bands. Technology enabler for this solution is mainly a use of In-memory data grid which not only partitions and caches the data in-memory, but also supports map-reduce paradigm of execution where code executes on the data partition providing infinite computational scalability and low latency.

Technologies used are Apache Ignite, Spark 2.0, Java 8

Risk Engine Sandbox:

Securities and Exchange Commission (Sec) approves the margin calculation models developed by OCC. For that OCC needs to do rigorous testing of its Quantitative and Statistical models on the data generated during prior business days trades. This testing process is cumbersome, as with every test, the data needs to be restored from archive to the database and then all the models are run on that data and then the results are verified by matching some key parameters like the margins, volatility etc.

Provided solution to add a date column to all the tables to make the database temporal, so that input and output data for multiple business days could be stored in the same database. UI is built to allow user to select the business date and the model which needs to be tested. An orchestrator layer is developed to dynamically execute the different applications which use the selected model. To analyze the output of this execution, analysis tools are built and integrated in the UI.

The implementation of this solution in the final stages and it will reduce the time to market of the new model from 2 months to 1 week.

Technologies used are Java 8 with Spring, Spring WebMVC, Ext-js, db2
