2.1 M Tech Final Year Project

“The Studies On Development Of Modified Nanofiltration/Ultrafiltration Membranes For

Coal Mine Washery Effluent Treatment ”.

The main focus of the present research project is on how to reduce the fouling effect on the surface of the membrane. So composite membrane of polyether sulfone and titania is prepared by means of increasing the hydrophilicity of the membrane by the addition of inorganic nano sized titania particles. The addition of small amount of titania reduce the contact angle between the

membrane surface and solute particles. This phenomenon reduces the concentration polarization and fouling of membrane.

Then this prepared membrane is tested with coal mine washery effluent treatment plant to recover the water from the waste water and make it reusable in the plant. Yet Membrane system is not used for coal mine washery effluent treatment. With the help of this technology we get high separation efficiency with less amount of energy, also reduces the harmful effects on environment.

2.2 B.E Final year project.

"Vaccume Membrane Distillation For Waste Water Treatment”

Project is done by the group of three members in the S.V.I.T Chemical project lab. In which the basic objectives are to study the performance Waste water treatment by Vacuum membrane distillation, to study the different parameters which are going to affect the process such as feed flow rate, feed temperature & vacuum. The Poly Tetra FluroEthylene (PTFE) hydrophobic membrane was used for Vaccume Membrane Distillation.

In that study finally we concluded that when vacuum rate is increased then the quantity of treated water get increased, temperature of feed is increased then purity of treated water is increased.

Design, operation, control, optimization and intensification of chemical process

To do technical trouble shooting activities to maintain the process parameters.

To guide the operator for any new change in the process.

Major Modifications:

Optimized utility (E.g. Steam, raw water) consumption during process

Decreased batch cycle time of dryer and batch distillation by optimizing of steam and other processes.

Developing material and energy balance calculation for process equipments.

Process development and scale up of lab scale process to plant scale .

Developing PFDs, P&IDs documents and review of same.

Equipment selection based on the process development and study conducted for different unit operations.

Coordinate and review basic and detail engineering for new projects with respect to quality, cost, safety, time to completion

New technologies which are coming up in process engineering and attitude of learning of same.

Monitor pilot plant operations by maintaining SOP,BMR and optimize process parameter.
