Industrial-Related Projects:

Autothermal Reforming and Partial Oxidation of Hexadecane by Bimetallic Catalysts for Fuel Cell Application 2011-2013

Built a safe and stable setup for the autothermal reforming of hexadecane which prevented back flow and explosion and synthesized Pt/Ni bimetallic nanoparticles as catalysts.

Analyzed activities of different catalysts for autothermal reforming with the above setup.

Achieved 117% hydrogen yield with slightly platinum doped Ni-CeO2-ZrO2 catalysts. Emulsion Polymerization for Carbon Nanotube & Polymer Composite 2009-2010

Explored various emulsion polymerization systems & carbon nanotube treatment methods to synthesize carbon nanotube-polymer composite directly from emulsion polymerization.

Achieved polymer composite with carbon nanotubes concentration as high as 1wt %. Academic-Related Projects:

Surface Modification, Photo lithography & Photochemistry on Polymeric Substrate 2005-2011

Developed a method of fabricating binary surface on polymer surface via wavelength-controllable photomask.

Introduced and patterned various kinds of functionalized groups onto polymer surface via UV irradiation.

Designed a photolithography process for micropatterning binary active proteins at precise locations on polymer films via spatially well-defined binary functional polymer brushes. Nanomaterial-based Electrode Design 2011, 2015-2016

Developed a rod coating method to prepare transparent conductive thin films onto flexible substrate in large scale.

Designed a magnetic field induced winkled porous graphene-Fe3O4 anode for Li-ion battery application.

Developed a hierarchical 3 D graphene anode via encapsulate micro oil gel with graphene oxide sheet followed with the shrinkage of the micro gel. Single Molecule Study of Mesostructured Silica (SBA-15) & Microfluidics 2013-2016

Studied local acidity in the pores of SBA-15 via single molecule spectroscopy with C-snarf-1 as fluorescent probe for catalysis & potential device application for the first time.

Fabricated a PDMS microfluidic device on top of SBA-15 thin films to seal the surface.

Diffusing C-snarf-1 dye solutions with certain pH into the pore structure of SBA-15 via channels of microfluidic device and studied the Fluorescent behavior of C-snarf-1 at different pH. Trouble shooting, Maintenance of Laboratory Equipment 2011-2016

Operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of XPS, including fixing the ion pump gauge system, replacing turbo pump controller, calibration (peak position, focus of detector et.al), writing the operation procedure and training other students.

Operation, Maintenance and updating of GC, including updating GC for high hydrocarbon measurement, tuning the temperature program for good separation, calibration, baking and cleaning of sample loop.

Trouble shooting of AMI 200 Catalyst Characterization Instrument including replacing TCD detector, replacing of lines et al.

Trouble shooting of FTIR (replacing of power supply)

Operation and maintenance of single molecule fluorescent spectroscopy, including adjustment of optic path, replacement of optic fiber, maintenance of the CCD camera and training other students. Synthesis Magnetic Solid Acid Catalysts for Hydrolysis Reaction 2013

Synthesis Magnetic solid acid catalysts via grafting acidic polymers on the surface of Fe3O4 nanoparticles.
